...hope you're all having fun...I'm watching a progress bar slowly creep across as I download 2142 in EA link again. Every time I joined the server tonight my game hard-crashed (had to pull the power out pf the machine)...somethings obviously corrupt, so just completely removed everything to do with EA/Dice including registry entries and I'm now clean-installing it all again :( that'll be me out of the frame tonight then ;)
well i do install the game with the full latest patch some time but so far so good
This is one thing that does my head in... I've only downloaded the BF2142 northern strike "update" lol cost me 6 quid.. i wipe my pc all the time, like i empty an old cluttered cupboard every, whenever and i gotta download via poxy EALINK northern strike again?? Its completely pants having to do this and i think u shud be able to make a backup of ur download.... incidently u can BTW, at least i think so... i kept the orig temp file for northern strike before i installed it... I'm hoping i wont have to download it again.... :/

I'm no expert m8 but there's a hint of a possible problem on ur pc in the form of either drivers or hardware in the form of RAM just maybe? Is it worth u checkin ur ram and perhaps running a couple of stability tests on ur machine before u go thru the above rigmorole? Updating to the latest drivers and or DX9c? Also exiting any other progz that may be running... use task manager... with respect m8 as i dont know how knowledgable u are.... worth giving these things a try b4 u re-download the whole game and addons... ;)

Thanks hornet....it's possibly a hardware problem, although I'm only crashing in 2142 - not in any other apps, or in the OS. It's weird, last night I could join Timeless Titan (Yummeh can vouch for this! :D ) I would select my kit and spawn on the titan, then get in a pod and eject towards a silo, then it would just freeze in mid flight with the image frozen on the screen and the sound looping, I had to pull the power out of the machine - couldn't even CTRL+ALT+DEL. This happened about 3 or 4 times, until eventually I couldn't even load the map.
I'm on the verge of switching to Vista, so I'll be re-installing everything again soon anyway. I reckon it's more than likey a software problem....I have never had these problems before, then last week I couldn't get on any servers that were running Verdun or Suez, so I replaced my 2142 directory with a backup and all was fine again - so these 2 maps were obviously 'broken' on my machine. I'll monitor it over the next few days with my nice clean install and see what happens.

hehe...I'm actually a computer engineer - RHCT (Red Hat Certified Technician). Linux and IRIX are my speciality though - not windows ;)

i have vista 64 running on 4gb of ram one issue i have this game could not see more then 2gb of ram cuzing the pc to crash in vista 64 it is a bug you have to lower the textercher setting in the game to medium or low and it works fine ever since
one issue i hade once i have load up my game and all the setting is gone account , game setting , etc but that only happend once to me

hmmm....thanks for the heads-up Ash - lowering the texture setting seems a bit extreme though - so you are not seeing nice high qaulity textrures?
Yeah i used bf2142 in vista 64 and had a few probs, namely punkbuster, i'm sure there was summert else tho?? Although i did et it workin fine. I since decided i wanted XP for gaming for now, so i clean installed and dual boot xp/vista32, my intentions were to use vista for everythin but gaming.There are obvious advantages to this (for now) One thing i would of done is reinstall the 1.25 update patch. U cant do this unless u reset ur game version to version 1.25 or earlier. I do this with a simple registry file which u can find on net easy enough, then simply reinstall the 1.25 patch. This may iron out a few issues u may have. ;)

i think u shud be able to make a backup of ur download....
You can - I'll make a new thread about how to do this so it can be easily found....
when vista 64 was launched driver was not really working well but now for me it is rock solid i personaly think vista 64 is the way to go cuz vista 32 can only adress 2gb of ram wich is crab.com

I've personally found that u gotta stress ur pc to the degree that a game would for ur pc to crash 'more' often, this is why i suggested a stress testin prog (like PRIME95) otherwiase it would perhaps crash less often runnin less demanding apps and the OS. I personally found if i can run prime for a few hours its fine but they say 24hours no crash means a stable PC lol. deffo m8... I believe vista/XP 32 bit only supports up to 3.5gb ram. So ur 2x2gb sticks would be part wasted. I will def need to switch back to 64bit vista late this year i reakon for gamings sake... up to 128gb ram and dx10, we'll (gamers) all be usin DDR3 4gb dual channel packages STANDARD just now, late this year early next year. Vista needs easily 1 gig IMO leavin me with -/+ 1 gig for games which is one reason i switched back to XP for games.

I've been experiencing something similar recently. Since friday I've not been able to stay in a game for more than two minutes without the game freezing up, so yesterday I uninstalled the game and deleted all my settings and profiles and reinstalled it from scratch (I also reinstalled my sound card drivers because I noticed the first sign of an imminent crash would be the audio starting to crackle...) and it seems to have worked. I played for about four hours last night and it only crashed once, which is really good going for this game :)
Anyway hope you get it working again, it's funny how a game can just seem to "break" for no good reason...

vista/XP 32 bit only supports up to 3.5gb ram. So ur 2x2gb sticks would be part wasted.
32bit software can actually address (see) 4GB of RAM, however there are device drivers and BIOS stuff that eats up some RAM, so in an XP box with 4GB of RAM installed - once the OS has actually loaded there is usually only about 3.5GB of RAM available.

Hey guys, noticed a few of you had problems when freezing mid game when podding from titan. I had the same problem and when i did a full re-install of the game i could not connect to the master server. It just times out. BF2 works fine so don't have a clue what the problem is. HELP!!!
My game went bad after the last patch was installed had to do a full reinstall again as well its not your firewall blocking connection to the master server is it as I had to reset my firewall after a reinstall
I only really got 1 complaint... I lose my Voip after a few mins in every session.... if the server crashes and i log in again, my voip works again. This seems to of started since the 1.25. I did incidently upgrade my soundcard but the fact that my voip comes back after a server reset or crash indicates the game at fault... anybody else havin this problem? It does not justify a reinstall of BF2142+NS and 1.25 for me atm. One thing tho.. no wall geometry glitchers yet?? they still in the titan box tho and i don't seem to CTD at all now. ;)

Nope i kept gettin silver/bronze or zip, he always rapes the gold off us. Oh man we had a bad run of noob commanders huh? We cud hardly pod anywhere, i think they go to edge of suez map in the hope of a sea view. Not a good move if the enemy titan is between 4 n 5 eh? I moved titan twice too in last game !! I dont wanna command anymore! I got all my medals and i dont wanna win anymore lol

hehe...that commander last night must have thought "Looks like our shield is going down first - I know! I'll move the titan away from the enemy titan so they can't pod onto it." You can kind of see the logic behind it, but anyone who knows timeless knows that podding between titans is pretty much mandatory - ESPECIALLY if you're defending - POINT-HEAVEN :)
I don't want to command either....I don't have any commander medals and I don't care - I don't want them! I'm never going to be able to put in enough hours per week to even get Major General, so more badges don't mean anything to me. For me commanding is boring....then again I can't even sit in a titan gun without getting bored....I have to keep moving :P
i always wonder what could be done regarding COMANDER i know how can he scrow the game play on other but mostly we in timeless incounter very view crap.com comanders
Nothin u can do but apply to be commander or put up with whoever decides to command. This is wot the mutiny vote is for. So i mutiny if i dont agree. In my eyes if there are above a dozen or so players in the game the commander shud command not combat/command, it which case i mutiny, esp if he's in a titan gun or any vehical. If its pointless mutiny coz nobody seems to agree then, we just have to put up with the fool. The new commanders do need a bit of guidance from experienced players but some just can't handle it as they know better ;)
will i think we are about to set a rules for this COMANDER COMAND ONLY

i personaly think the GAME play is the most important thing in 2142 AFK comander or the comander you just have mentioned make the round so bad that players stop gaming and start sweering
now it is much easier to make one simple rule for all comanders JUST COMAND if we say he can do this and that then we simplay opening a door for oh i was afk doing this and that

Anyway i said screw it and installed vista and it works fine now. As good a time as any i thought to upgrade!

Hey C-Zap, glad you got it sorted eventually....windows is a weird OS if you ask me :D give me a unix command line OS any day - if they ever port 2142 to it! ;)

I think no combat commanders. They applied for a job to do which they score from and will score effectively if they command. I've had the gold so many times for commander. Combat commanders try to have their cake and eat it but its not a winning strategy, yes there are those who can do a reasonable job commanding while combat but come on guys its not workable is it? U gotta be on the ball if u wanna be a good commander so combat commanding is not an option. As for titan moves... A good move is an attackin move to the center more likely but obviously there is an argument here. A Titan in the middle of the map and no silo-takers/organised squads is a losing side. The mutiny vote is all we got.One basic rule that may work "NO COMBAT COMMANDERS"

Yes mate... CONTROL PANEL/ User Accounts / turn user account control on or off and untick the UAC box and OK.
There u go... a little more desireable at the cost of a potential security risk. ;)

yes i agree no combat commanders,but as for having the titans in range for podding i disagree with this,keep enough distance so they have to fly or use apc to pod this way you can defend your titan better,rather than getting flooded with people podding over as soon as the shields are down imo..............
