View Full Version : HDD failure

I am currently running with only one HDD, my SSD which has Win 7 and BC2 on it. Only has 64 gig space.

My other HDD, is RAID 1 500 gig. I made it RAID 1, so that I could get a backup of it, if anything would ever happen to it, but now both RAIDS have failed.. Itīs as if the RAID is destroyed.

This is not the same issue I had a couple of months ago, when my RAID 0 system kept failing.

Any ideas on recovery, maybe there is something I have to do via BIOS ?

I really really really would like to recover my data.

Could it be that my array has failed ?

EDIT: I was able to recover the backup. Just hope nothing will happen to this hard drive until I get the new one.

Wish me luck

U can recover files from a RAID with a good HDD recovery tool. They take a lot of time and they tend to cost too, meaning, I doubt you'll find one free.

ive had some luck with free ones... well free off the back of a magazine for a few months anyway
i had a HDD fail 18months ago with loads of important stuff on it. and i did get it all back eventually

Thanks for the advice :)

I managed to recover one of the HDD.. and as itīs RAID 1, itīs a complete copy of everything I had.

Now I need to put everything on an external drive, so I can get a new HDD.

Iīll be sure to get my hands on one of those recovery tools, if I should encounter any troubles again. Hope not though :P

I use a few recovery softwares , this one use the most : http://www.getdata.com

But what I think happend to you Khark is, that one had failed. and your system couldn`t access the other one because it was set to Raid 1 (it need two working disks for that, missing one and it will not recognise the other ?!? ) once you have switched it to normal connection you regaind access to it... so I think that just one is dameged. am I right?

yes, only one of the HDD is damaged.

I recovered the mirror of the primary drive, which took less than 0.1 sec.

But just in case I want to make a backup of everything on an external, so that I am safe until I get a new HDD or maybe for safety reasons I buy a new and bigger set of HDDīs.

well yes with RAID 1, data is just mirrored so easy for any software to pick it up, it just depends on exactly how the disk (or how many disks) failed really.

I have used Recover my files http://www.recovermyfiles.com/recovery-checklist.php not free trial off a magazine

and a few others
