I found a very useful website
http://www.frostytech.com

there is loads of crap out there about what cpu cooler is best and a lot of conflicting info about which aftermarket coolers are good or bad.

these guys review coolers independantly and very cleverly by utilising a dummy 'core' running a heat source through it and measuring the temp rise from ambiant that results
AMD heat source is 125w onto a immitation K8 die (test platform)
Intel heat source is 150w and 85w on a immitation LGA775 die (test platform)
The test bed >method here< (http://www.frostytech.com/testmethod_mk2.cfm) Is designed to produce the "upper limits of thermal solutions designed for the socket"

Top 5 list http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm
Virtually all of these Coolers will be 'multi-socket'

heres the top 20 for AMD

and the top 20 for Intel

fitted a Zalman CNPS10X Ultra/quiet yesterday
the fan is virtually never on but so far it hasnt got anywhere over 10-15deg over ambient, despite putting a mild OC on (pushing the FSB up to 245 where amd standard is 200)
mind you Ive got a BIG case and the damn heatsink fills the entire thing so its not surprising

Sorry for the late reply,
The V8 is Big! but it does the work. while processor is working hard, the temp`s don`t rise :D
take A look :

blimey that is big, do you have any 'clearance' issues with ram or anything on the board?

No Clearance probalmes, tough I bought the largest Case you`ll porbably find (at least one of them)
So there`s enough space, and alot of ventilation, another pic :

BTW, this picture was taken a bit before, then I had to turn the cooler 90 degrees right. I`ve installed it in the wrong direction :electric:

Both me and my dad have the exact same spec (ex. gpu) he has the corsair h70 (liquid cooling) and I'm packing the Thermaltake Frio (air cooling) and still get lower temps even tho mine is OC'd :o
