maybe worth the try.

you should read the video description before playing it (pasted below)

This newest patch broke hitboxes even more.. I think it broke hitboxes completely. This probably might not even work anymore. I have to shoot behind enemies again. The knife doesn't work and DICE is apparently aware of it. I doubt this fix actually fixes it now until DICE gets off their ass and does it themself. This new patch added some nice features but really ****ed the game up for a lot of people. It's working fine for myself but most people are complaining of lag and issues now.

As for the old description..:

Are you tired of shooting people in Bad Company 2 but they don't take any damage? So was I. One poster on Gamefaqs (spank_thru101) posted a possible solution to the problem so I decided to test it out. Upon further investigation, this was also something you could edit in previous battlefield games.

This only has a really noticable effect if you have a faster internet connection and regularily see below 100 server pings in the list.

Basically, add these two lines;

SettingsManager.floatSet GSDefaultLatencyCompensation 0.0450000
SettingsManager.U32Set GSInterpolationTime 45

to your gamesettings.ini and settings.ini file in the BFBC2 folder.
In gamesettings.ini, add them between the lines;

IntroPlayed=1
[GstPersistence]

In settings.ini, just add it to the end of the list. Save both files.

BEFORE YOU TRY THIS, change the value to your general server ping. For me, when I refresh the list, most servers are 31-45 ping. So, I change the values to .045 and 45 for 45 ping.

Say most of your servers are 73 ping, you'll want to change the values at the end of the previously stated changes to .073 and 73 respectively.

EDIT: Setting it slightly below the server ping makes the hitboxes even more accurate. Setting it much lower makes them in front of the target. Experiment with it however you want.

Apparently the battlefield series tries to compensate for an average of 100ms ping by default and so the hitboxes appear to "lag behind" the actual player model you're seeing in game. This fix changes it so that the models are where the hitboxes actually are by adjusting to your average ping instead.

The reason I had captions for serverlist ping and in-game ping value is because I tried with both options. You can see that the serverlist ping was the right one to choose for the value edit and caused the hitboxes to be entirely more accurate, while the in-game value arguably made them even worse.

Ideally you want the value you change it to the match the server ping of whatever server you're joining. That's why I said take an average if you play across multiple servers of varied pings

To unintelligent people asking WHY NORMAL N THEN HARDCORE?!????

It doesn't matter what settings the server is on. PEOPLE WILL GET ONE SHOT AT THAT RANGE.

Both servers were 45 ping, ~120 latency.

have you tried that Niii?
will you get banned by pbbans for changing some stuff in the config files for MD5Tool?

Be safe with such config changes, many server will kick you for manipulated config files

i did it on BF2142 for several months during one installation of the game and didn't get into any troubles. i remember it being safe at the time, maybe things have changed though, you are right to be cautious.

i'll try and let you know if i get banned :)

Nice! Thanks a lot for posting this niii!

I have been wondering if it was possible to manually configure the ping somehow. So that the hitboxes compensate for ping, but I would believe that this is something Dice could program to be automatic.

And is this cheating? I donīt think it is. But I have noticed that in BC2 I sometimes have to aim behind a player in contrary to 2142, where it seemed very real to me and I had aim a little in front of them.

I would very much like to get some more clarification on this matter.

EDIT: Watched the video now and Iīve noticed very much how hard it is to hit players that are strafing, I usually make a trick out it myself when faced with an enemy and I am reloading. I strafe left and right and left and right until Iīve reloaded and boom heīs dead.

This ping thing is very facinating and I would be more than willing to test this out, if someone else woud like to join me.

But now a new patch will be coming out and they said they will fix the rubberband lag, this might be connected to the same thing. So I suggest we wait for the new patch before we go messing around with possible PB violations.

<Speedstar> if a .ini file will get edited, do pb ban for that?
<Speedstar> like the gamesettings.ini in BC2
<Pisi-Deff> no

ok, you wont get kicked or banned for editing your .ini files

Input from PBbans forum:
http://www.pbbans.com/forums/question-t118306.html/page__p__311483__hl__placebo__fromsearch__1&#entry311483
also chatted on the IRC with them a little bit

to sum it up:

No PBBan for it, because all the configs in your own documents may be edited.

The trick worked on BF2 and somebody just thought it will work in BF2142 / BC2 aswell.

But: The commands don't have any influence, because they are defined in an other way or

not even supported by the game engine.

The felt difference might come from fluctuating internet connections / server problems

or just your own imagination.

And: Even if it would work, it would only help you at servers,

wich have the average ping you wanted and added in the command.

As it was stated in the PBBans forum:

It's a placebo

read the thread on Pbbans.

Well if the "compensate" file canīt be found in BC2.exe then there is no fix.

Another thing the video didnīt really show, was him aiming behind when using the "fix"..

Surely if there was an advantage to this 'mod' it would be shun?

I think, when there is already a "public fix" for a new game, wich is very easy to do,

even DICE / EA would put into a patch. Or at least they should try to .

hehe you got a point.

i just tried hardcore mode, expecting to kill with a few bullets but i rarely did. it often took me more than one an94 burst to take down stationary targets at close range and strangely at times only one or two bullets at long range. bullets overall didn't feel that lethal even when i was the target. i wondered if it is due to poor hit registration or maybe the mode isn't that deadly.
