I would take Nvidia, because they basically run better in my experience.
Nvidia has always been more compatible with my monitors. I have Radeon now and will upgrade to Nvidia ASAP
5970 is a better card, more stable etc, I go for the most powerful out of the 2

i would take the nvidia because i prefer to have a single gpu card, i feel it makes it a little less hassling (more predictable i think is a better description) also in my personal experience nvidia have the better drivers (maybe not always but in my experience they are better) but as well i can almost guarentee that ati will have a price drop soonish. and im guessing you are going with an x58 i7 if money isnt a preblem here so you wont have to worry about the nvidia chipset for sli
Don't forget these figures are based on an early driver and performance will increase on release of newer drivers.
Theres no doubt at all that the 1st fermi card the 480GTX is inferior to the dual GPU 5970 but it is certainly the best single GPU out there which
is a great indication of what fermi should be capable in later GPU's. I'm sure Nvidia will tweak this fermi somewhat and will likely be a great architecture later this year
with x2's too I hope.
One thing is for sure these new gfx cards are using a lot of power and a high rated PSU of over 600 watts will be required for just one of these cards as they are drawing in excess of 70 amps.
I've a corsair 620 and it will run one 5970 with my current setup, which is likely to be my next upgrade (the 5970)
After this card I will have to upgrade my PSU also.
Both great power hungry cards and very expensive, will they run Crysis 2 and BF3 maxed out? Lets hope so. ;)
..... will they run Crysis 2 and BF3 maxed out? Lets hope so. ;)
these cards will be overkill for any games in teh next 3 years, particularly (as you say) when Nvidia have done sometweaking and doubled up the GPU's
Nvidia is simply better! Basta!
yet the ati card score better? :p
Why this poll ? u are deciding between these 2 cards for ya Raven Project ?
mmhh , only to meantion that u cant make a good camparsion because its a dual-GPU card against a single-GPU card. If money doesnt matter then why not buy an NVIDIA, but as H0RNET alreadys said, there will come out Upgrades from NVIDIA later this year with also dual-GPU, so a GTX480 would be a waste if it takes less than 6 months to this Upgrades.
Personaly i would go for ATI, but not for this one, because this highend 500€ cards are senseless to play a game smooth. All u need is GTX470 or a HD5850, but i let u play against our weather with ur polution. 300 years more and there will be no more winters with snow, u can quote me on that mahahaha

Firstly, the poll is just a question which card do you all would prefer... not for projects, just a interest^^
pff pollution... the melting of the snow is normally, it's the evolution / progress of the planet earth... but the human are going to accelerate it...
i heared rumors about that there will be no gtx 495, because of the heat problems... but as i said... rumors^^
if a gtx 495 will be confirmed, i would wait for it. :D
I'm having the 5970 delivered today, let you know how I get on ;)
