Ressurecting an old thread, but I can't wait for the Alien prequel:

Yeah it looks great, even though Ridley Scott seems to be trying to distance Prometheus from being called an Alien prequel now (possibly legal reasons, though I figure it's mostly due to Ridley's well-published dislike of how the Alien franchise was handled, in particular regarding the Predator crossover movies AvP and AvP: Requiem). It's great that HR Giger is back working on the franchise though, as he was there at the start, so design-wise/stylistically Prometheus should hopefully look more like Alien than the later movies in the franchise.

After watching both Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger on Blu-Ray over the last couple of nights I'm now really looking forward to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOrNdBpGMv8

It looks like Tony Stark is getting all the best lines, but then with Joss Whedon writing and directing I'm expecting the dialogue to be a lot more energised and interesting all round than it usually is in superhero movies.

Speaking of superheroes, here's another rather obvious movie I'm looking forward to:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yh6SriAjdE

I'm not quite sure yet about Nolan's "smaller" version of Bane, but he hasn't let down Batman fans like me yet, so I'm keeping an open mind, and Tom Hardy certainly has the acting chops to turn in a great villain performance

Which of course leads to the other over-hyped trailer doing the rounds at the moment:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0k3kHtyoqc

I still can't believe Aidan Turner and Richard Armitage were cast as dwarves, despite having video proof of it (and tbh I wish they weren't in the movie so they could still be in Being Human and Strike Back on TV - the latter certainly went downhill after losing Armitage) - although Peter Jackson did warn us last year that he was going for younger "sexier" dwarves than Gimli was  And Benedict Cumberbatch is voicing both Smaug and Sauron, which is an interesting casting choice too.

And lastly here's a rather intriguing trailer one of my RL mates linked to me before Christmas, featuring an even stranger and more intriguing cast of dwarves...:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY67V0wOlz8

The EIGHT dwarves are played by probably the least likely actors you'd ever have cast to play dwarves - Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, Stephen Graham, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Eddie Izzard and Nick Frost - chuck in Thor's Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, Charlize Theron as a life-draining evil Queen, and Kristen Stewart as a sword-wielding Snow White - and I think this film could be rather entertaining.

They've gone back to the original Grimm fairy tale as the source material so it should be fairly dark/grim/twisted, which the trailer seems to bear out at some points - they're certainly not taking inspiration from the Disney version :D

But to be honest the trailers I'm most excited about for 2012 are all for TV shows:

Game of Thrones season 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBrsM_WlfV8)
Boardwalk Empire season 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_C_c7oZacA)
Sons of Anarchy season 4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_k1gKaNXbk)
Castle season 4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFDXxkayONc&feature=related)
True Blood season 4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvvLacE7lcg)
Mad Dogs season 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woUy0TnvBUc&feature=channel_video_title)
plus on New Year's Day on BBC there's Sherlock series 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhXgs5z45gk&feature=channel_video_title)
and on Sky there's Treasure Island (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70YA1NvefjI) with Eddie Izzard as Long John Silver

Movies are great for the spectacle, but TV arguably has better drama now.
