1. What kind of games do you want to play?

2. How long do you want to use the system? Month, Years (1, 2, 3 ... )?

3. Do you want to install the hardware by urself?
-> If no, you are searching for a ready-to-use system?!

5. i dont understand (sorry :P )

are you happy choosing the bits yourself like i did? Or do you just want a mass produced off the shelf one?

I think the best choice will be buying one that's already built so it just works straight out of the box.

The Best pre-built gaming PC company that I know of is Alienware, but they are also one of the most expensive. The good thing about them is that you can choose all the components that they use from lists when you build a PC on their website. It also lets you choose a new monitor, and it comes with Alienware's own gaming keyboard/mouse.

Companies like Acer and Asus do decent cheaper gaming PCs but you can't choose which parts they use. You'll have to check their websites for the PC model and then they list the different versions of each model underneath.

Let us know the most amount of money you want to spend and the country you live in, then we can find the best PC for you.

Saba, make sure of these things, buy the best single gfx card u can afford, 4gb ram minimum, Intel quad core cpu and windows 7 64 bit.

This will cover you for DX10 games but in the interests of DX 11 then you will be best to wait a little for a better choice of gfx cards.

A 24" TFT monitor is a very good choice with resolutions of up to 1920x1200, it will sweeten the appearance of ur games.

A few decent ready built bases here : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?&groupid=43&catid=1270&subid=1443&sortby=priceDesc

Let us know how u get on sab ;)

can i use a hd tv as a monitor??

Yes of course, usually you got a VGA, HDMI or a DVI port of the back to plug ur GFX card into.

They make a decent game too, higher the resolution and the smaller the screen the better the game will look tho.

1080 LCD TV will look good sab. The plasma's are lower res.

I'm setting up exactly what you described Saba!

I'm going to use the Dell 3008WFP 30" monitor (2560x1600 res) which has DVI and HDMI ports (as well as others). It's super high resolution means the image quality will be awesome and a lot clearer because it's designed to be a PC monitor and not just a TV. I currently use Dell's older 30" monitor that doesn't have HDMI ports but it is such a great thing to use for PC gaming. You need really good hardware to run games at that res, but it is so sweet! I plan to use an HDMI audio/video switch so that I can run an Xbox 360, PS3 and my PC using the same monitor and the same surround sound speakers.

The Dell monitor: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=752304

The HDMI audio/video switch: http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20switch%204x2_7_1audio.html

I'll have to buy some converter cables for my Creative 7.1 surround sound speakers so that I can run the same audio cables from my PC's sound card into the switch, but it should work fine after that. If you want to do the same thing you'll have to check the cables on your speakers!

ohh looks like i need to ask for an increase in the pocket money ;) btw bert i was reading through the stuff and i wont really need speakers, i have a pro gaming headset that i can use on pc/xbox so i can take 19pounds of my expenses :)

Bert
23-01-2010, 01:51
ok mate, not much saving though with the speakers

the prices i quoted there are for my local PC supplier, and are for a full custom system rather than just individual parts.
and are for them to build the system for you rather than them just supplying the parts
you should have somewhere similar local
if you did have someone who could help build it, it would be a bit cheaper. but without this you would be stuck.
do you get PC advisor magazine over where you are?? they have a great section of suppliers who might be able to build you a system

PC advsior magazines 5 best buys this month, all scoring 148-152 on world-bench 6 ALL from independent suppliers !!!

I have adjusted all the systems so they come without monitor keyboard etc...that you wouldnt need

1 chillblast Fusion condor (http://chillblast.com/product.php?productid=19315&cat=324&page=1) 1 595.36543 Euros.... too expensive for you but check out http://www.chillblast.com/home.php because they do ship internationally but you would have to check the rates

2 Eclipse Titan i795R585 (http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/systemview.aspx?id=107) 1505.36847 Euros, dont know if they ship international

3 CyberPower Infinity i7 Heaven (http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Infinity_i7_Heaven) 1 503.00853 Euros

4 Arbico Elite 9590 HD (http://arbico.co.uk/Arbico-Elite-9590-HD-Multi-Task-PC-Package-p-18424.html) 1573.29 Euros (comes with monitors ect cannot customise)

5 Eclipse Titan Crossfire X58 1 230.5893 Eurosi795R489 (http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/systemview.aspx?id=97)

number 5 here is the best of the bunch in my opinion. it outperforms the others in most thing except pure high def gaming because of only 1 gfx card. if you wanted my opinion i would go for a setup exactly like this, get rid of the RAID bollox (its more trouble than its worth for a novice) and add another GFX card over crossfire (prob 200euroish extra). thenyouve got a very very good system that will eat most others costing twice the price for breakfast

Bert
13-02-2010, 09:11
woops forgot about this
yes dude i will help you, and by buliding this yourself you stand to make significant savings.
for instance i have just upgraded my PC to a good CPU and motherboard... for £130 all in.......

remember... a lot of the guys here will have hulcking great intel i7's and such BUT for gaming this makes NO diference at all....
gaming does not use hyperthreading or any of the othr related technologies (why dont ask me when every other grphics intensive software does)
what is more important is L2 L3 chache sizes and the actual frequency of the processor.... intel have the lead in this because there chips can be clocked higher.. BUT that means higher clocked RAM (very improtant with intel) AND they have the worse future proof support possible
3 seperate type of socket 775 which is fazing out, 1156 which is the standard but lower end and 1366 which is for the high end
what this acually means is you need to spend a premium on a MOBO and a chip
where-as even though AMD chips are simply not as good at the minute in the real world they cost less AND will do EVERYTHING you need for a fraction of the price... and to top it off AMD socket support is the best AM2/AM2+/AM3 most of the CPU's will drop strasight into any one of the sockets with no problem at all
meaning when it comes to value for money, real world useage and futureproofing AMD is they way to go
but for super high performance you HAVE to have intel

so the simple answer to this is what are you going to use your PC for... gaming itself is not an issue, for example a Phenom II quad WILL be as good as the latest i7 for gaming!!!!
But if you plan to do anything else CPU intesive.... Video editing encoding etc then you will need to have a intel chip

In a word yes. Go for a C2D Dual core but my advice would be to have a Quad core now if budget allows m8 ;)

PC format this month did a review of CPU's
and there result was a little interesting
there opinion was that the (nehalem) Core i5 750 quad 2.66Ghz was THE best gaming chip out there!!
and once again this was because for gaming you dont need any of the fancy gubbins like hyperthreading tech....
AND the fact you can pick one up for as little as £150 + it is socket 1156 which means cheaper MOBO
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172755 £150
