So, i have seen few of you waiting the new campaining a lot. But there is already unofficial campainings done (i remember from l4d 1 that some people made very awesome campainings and strethed the game engine).
So, back to business, i just tested one of them and it worked like it should :D
I came across this site http://www.l4dmaps.com/files.php?cat=6
Downloaded campaining called Arena of the Dead 2, unzipped the file and inserted the .vpk file to:
***\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\addons\
Started the game and there was my new campaining in server list. You dont need to install anything, just download campainings which you want and put them to addons folder :yes2:
Some of the campainings are still in development, so there might be only 1 map from 4 finished.
You get your archievements and all in these too, so these are kind of supported...
Maybe we see some nice timeless battles in these campainings too...

I thought I recognised the site, I think one of my mates helps runs it or owns it.
never really tried a mod for L4D2 yet though

Btw. L4D1 campaigns for L4D2 and how to install:
Firstly download this, it's the campaign:

copy the "l4d1.vpk" into the...
***\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\addons\
...directory.

Then download the required L4D1 assets (pakassetsv2.7z (305.56 MB))

and now you should be able to play L4D1 campaigns.
i tried a few second of the l4d1 deadly airplane campaign / map... it looked really nice^^

We are releasing the Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools and Left 4 Dead 2 Add-on Support today.
PLAYERS: If you are not looking to design but play custom campaigns all you need to do is install the add-on support package. Just go into steam and open up the Tools tab. Look for the entry labeled Left 4 Dead 2 - Add-on Support click and install it.
