I read that few steam accounts has been hijacked, passwords, emails and all changed. People lost their games, some accounts has been retrieved because owner had original dvd's for games in account and sended fotos from them.
But if you make verification for your e-mail in steam, it should help to prevent this... Go to Settings, and then Email Verification button. After that if someone/you tries to change password or email for account, you get confirmation mail before any changes will be made.
I did not notice this button earlier, but it has been announced in Steam client update at some pointt... just for your info as i noticed there is steam users in here.
