Whats it gonna be?

USB 1 is 12 Mbit/s

USB 2 is 480 Mbit/s and

USB 3 will support 4800 Mbit/s (4.8Gbit/s) - Quite a lot faster than USB 2.

USB 3. This is the very technology i am waiting for before i upgrade my PC/mobo and i might even just

buy a pci card instead of upgrade, we'll see.

Light Peak can theoretically support speeds of up to 100Gbit/s and the standard will start at 10Gbit/s

which could also be available in 2010, looks like a very strong rival to USB 3 but apparently more expensive.

I think either would be very suitable for external storage devices and we're overdue these much needed speed increases.

Well, it does look like there may be a lil war developing here, lets see.

I suspect the majority of us will go for USB 3, this will also be with us in 2010.

What will you choose.... or... what have you chosen?

yeah me too

but which system or mainboard does it support now, or will it come in the future?

It should come within the next year but we still need storage devices to speed up quite a lot to make the most of Light Peak and USB 3.

USB 3 is already here, many motherboards and PCI-e, PCMCIA cards etc and external USB 3 devices are on the market.

I dont think we are going to see devices that can really utilise these speeds for some time yet, even though USB3 is the new standard most manufacturers will continue to use USB2 for some time methinks
however the difference that this will make for external storage etc is going to be great

havmnt actually seen this lightpeak thingy, but TBH I dont see much of a point and it will probably die a death like e-sata, because maunufaturers will use USB3 standard which will be open licence and I bet light peak isnt (hence more expence to the end user)
