View Full Version : Vista - so long to the biggest piece of crap ever/Windows 7

With Windows 7 just around the corner, I dont know if I should tempt fate and dive in to yet another piece of Microsoft tat so soon after the shambles that Vista was.
I don't know about your experiences but like a fool, I purchased Vista 64-bit Ultimate on day 1. I upgraded my PC to handle all the so called improvements and then spent the next 7 days looking at blue screens, unable to get online or play any games.
Then, after a couple of updates - one of which would mean that if I had my old IDE hard drive plugged in, it would take 25 minutes to boot up! The so called 'fix' was meant to address this but once I installed it, boot up was just seconds, even with the IDE drive plugged in.
When I did manage to get online, gamers were dropping like flies out of games due to lock ups and errors. Who remembers the infamous 'stuttering' during BF2142? A 'hotfix' soon corrected this but it took months to get it.
Now with Vista 64-bit, you are supposed to be able to have 8GB of RAM and this of course isnt true. I've just doubled my RAM from 4 to 8GB and my PC didnt boot up. I removed one stick of RAM - down to 6 and it all works well.
My motherboard is an Asus Striker Extreme so it can certainly handle the RAM. So how many of you cant wait to rid your computers of Vista? Will you be brave and get Windows 7 - essentially a less bloated version of Vista in drag?
well, having the beta of 7 lying around i can tell you this much, from what ive seen:-
It has about the same amount of bugs pre Vista SP1 (although SP1 was one large bug)
It runs much faster
This piece of crap uses 68% of my Ram when idle - 7 only uses 35% so an improvement there
It looks just as pretty as vista
It has even more annoying security things than vista - example: warned me that a program from an unknown publisher was about to start (Microsoft Word because i clicked it), example 2: Windows firewall told me internet explorer was trying to access the internet - no **** sherlock
Bearing in mind this is just a beta i think its doing quite well, but no promises.
Just my thoughts,
Dax
Last year september, my Old PC broke down, and i DESPERTLY wanted to play bf2142
So i bought a new PC, With vista.
I had to bring back the PC 3 times to the computer store. They reinstalled Vista 6 times, and they finnaly found the problem. One TINY little security thing was Enabled. And i wassent able to Download or run Anything.
So, thousands of Crashes later, im now here.
XP I miss you!
I hope this Windows 7 will be good, but im NOT gonna buy it until im Absoluty sure it aint a Vista 2

just remember its made by microsoft so dont expect too much
remember
Xbox 360 over heating
Vista (what more needs to be said)
all the security flaws in ie7 that viruses use to infect your pc
so when installing it remember
pray it works
:lol1:
Honestly i dont know what all the fuss is about lolz.
Never had much of a problem myself.
Windows 7 is better, performance wise for sure.
Windows 7 due around October, maybe sooner and its bound to have teething problems ;)
I got Vista 64 Home Premium, try to reduce RAM Speed, it helped me. There seems to be trouble with lots of big RAM banks. All i got after instal of me machine was bluescreens on the go then reduced RAM clock to 667MHz and worked myself up to 740MHz, which now has proven as stable. I also use 8GB RAM and a Abit IN9 32X MAX, but the RAM is only middle class i guess.

Vista is almost stable now. I think for those like me who rushed in to it - thats where the problems were. Plus you had alot of people who didnt upgrade their PCs and trying to run Vista on 1 GB of RAM!
Windows 7 today boasted some new touch screen tech like the iphone but will still use the traditional mouse and keyboard. Is Windows moving away from its core functionality to some entertainment system?
I like the idea of all my entertainment being controlled on my computer and this is something I am currently working on at home - building a Media centre PC with all my music, movies etc on it to work through my TV/music system - but what a bugger to set up! haha
Update -
I just read on Tomshardware that its pointless adding 8GB because Vista just uses it up when there is no need to.
I got a HTPC since back in good ol 2005 :)
But i'm a bit disapointed in Vista couse of the lack of support for DVB-C and DVB-S2, altough there's a DVB-C support witch few cards, KNC or FloppyDTV, you need a special beta plug in you only can get direct at your software retailer or via Microsoft, and then the supports only for Mpeg 2 based DVB-C, so no HDTV :(
you see with microsoft and vista 64 thay just count the fools out there sadly i am one of them who join the club day one as well i am a Apple OSX hardcore user and the only thing that make me use pc , Vista crap in bf2142 , 2142cc ,just the compatible issue other than that i just keep downloading porn, virus , to premote the crap cummunity mahahahahaha
never had any probs with vist apart from small issue with sp1
not many probs on windows 7 apart from tv card drivers.
my probs have always been with xp ? found new device ,weres the driver ? here were? install a usb device great the 20 mins later this will work better if u use a usb2 port ??? i am u peace ov crap???
and i ended up with 6 kids ? sorry 7 kids due to the famouse blue screen lol
i had a major problem with SP1, it actually bricked my vista, just refused outright to start up...to me ages to fix
i've got both but i use xp. never did warmup to vista. haven't tried win7.:bye:
I must admit i have to use an Xp/laptop for BF2142cc, with vista it dont refresh and i cant seem
to find a fix either, no fix seems to work for me.
I have the perfect fix for all this
the six unopened, pristine copys of XP I have sitting in a draw........... YAY
that said vista is fine on my laptop (where i dont do anything important so np)

vista is like win ME good graphics and thats it unlike win98 which was a good all round proved system ME was supposed to be the end all just like Vista but its XP thats doing the beans not Vista will Win7 be like 98/XP god only knows but one thing is for sure it has to be alot better than Vista otherwise people will only look else where for a decent system that offers the toys that are installed on your motherboad to work as they should.....
Note.. I miss the 200 and the 64mb memory with a 116/32mb graphics card things and games were much simpler back then lol rofl
