yesterday at 3pm local rivals summerhill college and sligo grammer school faced each other in a connought semi final. the grammer side which were "pros" at the sport of rugby were the favorites. But the summerhill side which was made up of boys who only started playing rugby 2years ago were the "underdogs" of the day,But as usual the underdogs played a good match. At half time the score was 0-0 with even possession.
summerhills teamwork was brilliant while the grammer looked at there feet in disbelive at every turnover. Summerhill were lead by the great playerof Sean Donnely who lead his team every inch into the grammer half.at te 50thmin jason mcgoldrick had a scoring opportunity to put the grammer in the lead. the summerhill support was out in numbers and put jason off and missed his chance. 10 mins later grammer tight head prop was sent off with a neck injury after Patrick Saba made "mince meat" of him in the scrum.
Patrick also played some decisive roles in the rucks and mauls. on the75 mins mark Keiran Blake had a scoring opportunity for summerhill the pitch fell silent. not even a whisper was heard when keiran kicked tat ball supporters behind the goal erupted with joy. 2 mins to go andthe grammer were scraping for the ball. a kick by grammer full back Colm Egen a brother of cian from westlife kicked for the winger to chase but then out of nowhere enda roche caught a brilliant ball and fired it into touch the ref looked at his watch and bleu the whistle the pitch expolded with joy as a sea of blue summerhill boy stormed the pitch. the final score 3-0 to summerhill. Patrick Saba was awarded with man of the match because of his dedication to his team
summerhill will now play Ownmore in the Galway Sports grounds in the final
