Ahh good, well I shall try once more to use Timeless been on DGK past few days, had some excellent games there also but I like the guys i Know on Timeless/

My pc is fresh from a total reformat. Firewall permissions sorted PB updated so I shall see wether I can game on your servers.

Your Suez 2 server brings up a PB error, please don't say it's my install because it works fine on all other servers, AND I tried LOADS tonight, your Timeless TITAN server works as does Suez1.

PB is going to be the biggest pain for everone but lets remeber this, what could be put in its place we need it if severs and players all keep on same page with the updates and things theres only the cheats an glitches to sort out I mean how long has this game got before its dropped? error loading pb client? perhaps your version is newer than the servers
just reinstall bf2142 and patch it (but no pb) then try with old pb version to play there
if not dont update to newest version get same version as the server has : C1.709

I'm having alot of PB issues with just the timeless servers and only timeless. Some threads I read state that I might be banned. Is there a way to check if I've been PB banned?
If so, can you guys direct me to where I can appeal.

Hey guys,

If it's of any help to anyone at all, Punkbuster issues are unfortunately terribly common and often affect many players. Incidentally, the reason why often a player may be able to connect to some ranked servers, but not to others as someone here asked, is most likely because the servers you can connect to aren't running Punkbuster to its full extent). Anyway, after dealing with endless complaints of the same issues on the old [SE] Website (before the damn service provider lost it all for the second time lol), we collated a few of the most common fixes together to help our players address this particular issue. If it saves anyone a ton of grief and time, have a read, maybe it'll help you troubleshoot the problem :) !

If you are getting "PB disconnects", (either a few seconds after the game starts, or sometimes it stops a map from ever loading too, some of these tips might help).

Primarily, Firewalls can be a serious pain and are often the most frequent cause of Punkbuster related issues, some Firewalls obviously are better than others as always, while some don't cause any significant issues at all. The McAfee Security Centre Suites or McAfee Firewalls (just as one example) can be a royal pain sometimes, this issue is not limited to McAfee alone by far of course, many other Anti-Virus / Firewall products can cause exactly the same effects. After all this time McAfee, or many other Firewall providers, simply don't seem to have got round to ensuring that their products recognise the new(ish) core Punkbuster files as legitimate software, and that the core Punkbuster files are not Malware, Spyware, or Harmful Software (HHHMM, maybe McAfee are owned by EA hehehe ;) ). Many Anti-Virus applications can also contribute to this particular issue, so before trying any of the steps below, try completely disabling your Anti-Virus software, run your game, and see if you can connect to the server you've been having problems with. Otherwise, read on.

First up, check your Firewall permissions. Verify that the following files are all granted "Full Access" to communicate over the Internet.

PnkBstrA.exe - Can be located at (example - C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exe ). Even if you have previously permitted this file, if you update your Security Suite, Firewall or AV Software, often you may need to re-add these files manually after updating to address the problem at hand.

PnkBstrB.exe - Also located at (example - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ ). The same applies to this file as the above, PnkBstrA.exe file.

BF2142Pace.exe - Located (by default - C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142Pace.exe ). DuuuHHH LOL, this one is fairly obvious, but it's not unknown at all for the odd player to whine endlessly that they get disconnected, only to discover that there has been a "small oversight" in allowing the file, (i.e. they blocked it, or "accidentally" removed it from the permissions list hehe) ;). It's also not unknown at all for any Software to have moments of insanity, and all by themselves just happen to remove applications that before were listed quite correctly with the relevant permissions. If in doubt, double check it has the correct permissions :) .

Obviously, if you'd like a very quick method to verify if this issue is down to your Firewall or not, you know how to do it, and you are prepared to take the risk. You could totally disable your firewall and try connecting to the server that you are having problems with and see if that works, (just don't forget to re-enable your Firewall as soon as possible). However, if you do try this, then ultimately you will have to go through the process described above anyway, so it would be better only to try this to give an indication as to if it is part of the problem, and for many users only used as a last resort, not as an option to begin with if you would rather operate on the side of caution!

Still not working? Don't panic just yet. Next up, again due to possible Firewall issues, your Punkbuster files may not be "auto updating" themselves. There are two ways you can address the issue of updating your Punkbuster files, one semi-automatically (by downloading a simple application to do it for you), the other manually. First it is recommended to try the Semi-Auto process.

The "Semi-Auto" option. Copy and Paste the following address into your Web Browser (it is a direct link to an application called "pbsetup.exe"), this application once installed will update your core Punkbuster files for you, http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.exe . You may either "Run" this file from its location, or "Download" it to disc, and then run the application from the location you saved it to, whichever you prefer. After you have installed "pbsetup.exe", you will need to run it, and then it will update your files. Easy to follow instructions of how to use this simple application can be viewed at the following address (it really is very simple, quick, and easy), http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php . Once completeed, try your game, hopefully all will be sorted, if not, don't pull all your hair out just yet, you may need to save some to yank out later ;) !!

The "Manual" option. Copy and Paste the following Address into your Web Browser, http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/bf2142/pbsec.htm . There are some brief instructions at the top of this file, read them carefully to ensure you save the file to correct location. If you are not particularly confident with navigating your way to the correct location to save the file to, then carry out the following (assuming your game has been installed to the default location). As the instructions at the top of the page state, choose "Save As" from your Web Browser's "File" Menu and explore first to your "C Drive", next navigate to the "Program Files" directory (folder), within there you will find your "Electronic Arts" directory, within that, your "Battlefield 2142" directory, and finally within there, the "pb" directory, navigate into the "pb" directory and click on "Save". Start up your game and hopefully your PB disconnection issues will be over :)!!!

"IF" not, (AAAAAGGGGHHHHH LOL, by now you should also be approximately 72% bald ;) ). You may need to completely uninstall your core Punkbuster files (is the bad news), there is however an application available for download (pbsvc.exe) to do all of that for you (is the good news). http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe , either "Run" it from its location, or "Download" and save it to disc and run it from the location you saved it to. This application has the facility to fully uninstall/install fresh and up to date core Punkbuster files, better yet, it also provides the facility to run a full diagnostic test and check up of your systems Punkbuster installation which makes it even more useful :)!

STILL having problems after all this? Ultimately there are many many issues that can cause conflicts or each have their own individual effects in contributing to this particular problem, for example ranging from the particulars of an individual system and the variety and diversity of software installed and in use. The above processes are all simply a "place to start" the troubleshooting process, with Firewalls being the most common cause. They are not however the "only" cause unfortunately, there are too many other causes that can have their own effects to list here.

Hello, I know I'm resurrecting a dead topic, but this is the one with the most info..

I have a weird problem, which people see often, but they get it fixed.
It doesn't work with me..
Everytime I try to enter a game, it loads. But than goes back to the Server list, with a PB box, With nothing in it..

I updated manually, no effect.
I re-installed Battlefield TWICE, with the patches.
Did not work.
I removed PB, installed it again, updated.
Did not work.

I must say, that I'm in a very badmood, because after so much trying..
+ I never had ANY problems, Until I formatted, and re-installed the game.

Please help.

Go to Control Panel and select "Administrative Tools"
2. Select "Services" from the list that appears.
3. Scroll down the list and ensure "PnkBstrA" and "PnkBstrB" show 'status' as "Started" and 'Startup Type' as "Automatic"

i had this problem after a reinstall, but reinstalled again and then updated Pb and it fixed it so apart from that i cant suggest anything else.
