riiight ive had enough of this - most of you will know that i play on a laptop and get no gameplay at all because of the lag, so now ive decided to save me some money to get a new desktop to play properly.
only a few problems...
being a student, my possible expenses are not exactly the highest and it might take a good while before i acutally get to buy it
and, as most of you will know by now as well, i am THE NOOB when it comes to computers... ask horn3t, hell tell u a tale.
but seriously ive no idea how to build one, let alone use one lolz
and i cant do BF either
haha the short of it, knowing you all to be some sort of technically gifted folk, what the heck shud i buy and where and how the *BEEP* willl i be able to whopp it togetther?
so bring it on folks im ready
muahah :)

1st: You need to fix the amount you want to spend
2nd: You need to look around to get the max for the $$$
3rd: ChaoZ can help via Webcam if needed and if it ends up in a Keg :p - why not :)
Right now you would be ok with a nice Intel 45n DualCore (i.e. E8400) (~ 150€), 4GB Ram (~ 50 to 75€) and an Intel P45 Board (~ 130€). GFx should be at least a 9800GT (> 100€), or better a ATI X4850/4870 >150€.
Get the numbers together and we`ll help - maybe you can get also a CPU from me ... just ask :)
Let´s talk about that on TS ...

While it would be nice to get all the good stuff your best bet as you start off on the desktop road would be to get a 17'' or 19'' (you will get 19 cheaper in some parts depending on the brands) but really any auld 17 will do you. for mouse - just get usb one with the side buttons for your knife and crouch and so on. keyboard again usb and any half decent one will do.
from there you shud be able to get better bits as you go along.
BTW, i have a spare case for yea ;)

i run the nVidia 8400 thats a sub £50 and that runs between 20 - 30 frames (Just)
most boards have audio so no need to worry about that
dont even look at core i7 or core 2 quad you only need a duo
45nm with oc good option
well as u keep being told u need to think of ur budget ?? then u can go from there
as for me i think i want that that and that then i say ouch how much lol

ahh yea the budget .. i ll make that one up while away as well :)
Hey kegNegss,
If you give me a budget I can get you a decent setup. I recommend PC's to my mates all the time so know my stuff. :)
I do have a few questions though just to point me in the right direction.
Do you want it to come in parts or pre-built?
Do you want a keyboard, mouse, monitor or do you already have those?
What kind of gaming do you do? As in, do you just want to max out 2142 or do you want a bit of future-proofing.
A budget I go by when upgrading is £1000, but that was just for the tower.
Anyway, if you still need advice get back to me and I'll help you out dude.

okay so this is how it looks like atm: (i think lol)
monitor : LG L227WTP 22"
case: coolermaster stacker
board: DFI X48
cpu: Xeon X3350 Quadcore
ram: 4 GB
grafics: EVGA e-GeForce GTX275 896MB PCIe
harddrive: Western Digital AV 500GB
dvd-drive: Samsung SH-S223B
powersupply: Corsair HX850
so yea, lets see soon ill have all the parts and then were good to go again.
thanks to all the ones involved (u know who u are ;)) will follow later ;)

Depends on what you want to get out of it. The rig you've selected above is a good mix of performance verses price, but probably overkill for 2142, if that's *all* you want to do.
You can probably get a graphics card for <100 euros which will run 2142 with all settings max, view distance 100% and still get 30FPS.
First off, and a lot of the serious gamers here who I know have one (incl me) 24" flatscreen (widescreen aspect ratio). IT's THEE BUSINESS. You can get them for 240 euros now 1920x1200. (LG brand) about 50 euros more than 22"
Course you don't have to buy all together. You could pick up the monitor and hook your laptop up to it and then a few weeks later upgrade your laptop. to a desktop.
4Gb memory, probably a wise call. 2gb would be enough, but you'll future proof yourself and memory is cheap at the mo.
Only thing I wouldn't do is go Xeon, those procs are more suited towards server archtitures. Core i7 (200-250 euro) and a compatible MB is probably the way to go there.
Should be able to knock the whole thing in well under 1,000 euros.
I'm gonna take it ur having a deal on this cpu: Xeon X3350 Quadcore ?
And with the 850watt psu, ur ready to get a 2nd EVGA e-GeForce GTX275 in there later on ;)

hmm thanks for your inputs on that...
seeing as i am an utter noob in these things i have made this a project with tankster-pete and he got me some parts, like core etc etc
im more than happy with my 22'' for now, biggest screen i ever had and prolly gonna fit on me table lolz.
about gaming, im planning on taking the next few games that come with this pc also, so i think it is not really exaggerated :)
hmm lets see how this developes, really all the parts on the way now :)
but theres always time to upgrade
