New video card - BF2142 won't start

Dear Support,

I've got a problem... just fitted a new video card (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, 1GB) but now BF2142 won't start :frown:. It doesn't load the first screen with the walker coming thru the EA logo (i.e. when the screen changes resolution to 800x600, or something) and bombs out with no error message.

Since fitting the card I have downloaded the card latest drivers, re-installed BF2142, and updated pb. I'm stuck... any suggestions?

The only thing I can suggest is to totally uninstall the drivers and do a complete brand new install of them graphic drivers.

I would also check your current resolution. I wouldnt push it over anything it cant handle. Finally, your power PSU - whats the watts on this? A new card has placed extra demands on the power so check that as well

check on the log error and see what code your getting google it and am sure you will finde some

I've got the resolution set at 1280x1024, which is what I had it at with the old card. There's the 350W PSU and thou this may sound on the limit, I checked on the Dell forums and folk with the same machine age/specs as mine have had success in upgrading their cards to the geforce 8800...

Unfortunately, I don't get any error code when BF2142 fails to run

I think this is to do with config files in your profile.

If you rename your bf2142 folder in mydocs you should get a new profile setup, (to confirm)

Try it again. If the game still dont work, then i would suggest a reinstall of BF.

Install in this order.. BF > 1.5 > NS > 1.5 backup you old profile if needed.

You will have to make sure you have no driver conflict issues.

Uninstall your old gfx drivers and use a driver cleaner if possible.

Make sure you restart.

Install the latest DX9 (june 2008 ) from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/DirectX-9.0c-Redistributable.shtml

Restart following DX install.

You might need to re-apply 1.5 patch.

Hornet - you are a star! :grin: Right first option; only had to change the BF2142 folder name and the game kicked off. Things are looking very good!
