Never nuff problems with 2142 - if it werent for timeless i'd stop playing it right now

so let me tell u this : i got my new Speedlink Medusa 5.1 USB Headset today and after plugging it into an USB Port and installing it the right way i wanted to start up BF but ingame the sound was crappy as hell!
Every sound is accompanied by several crackles it sounds like its really rainin!
so anyway, its only in BF, music n movies work just fine!
i already changed usb ports, bf ingame settings, re-installed the drivers - everything

im not really good at computer stuff so i dont know what might be causing this problem, any hints, helps or stuff?

I got a SigmaTel audio card in it and now the speedlink drivers -
if I change the windows settings for standart music output to sigmatel it works fine in BF, the sound is not coming out the headphones anyway though.

Soo i hope u understand my problem and can help mee!

hi kegNeggs,

the Problem u have in BF is coming through the Problem of the EAX Halleffects. U said it sounds like raining ( i had that also ), then turn of the EAX Advanced in BF Menue, only select Hardwaresupport and let EAX deselected. Does ur Sigma Audiocard has Hardwaresupport for EAX 5.0 ( if not then a Softwaredriver of BF is automaticly is rendering ur Sound and u will hear scratching or something like rainsounds ) ? Ur Headset is a 5.1 so it supports EAX 5.0, but if ur Audiocard has no Hardwaresupport for EAX Advanced then u have to turn it off in BF.

So try to deaktivate EAX support in BF Menue under SOUND and set only Hardwaresupport, it should work then. Tell if not pls

well as said before im reinstalling the game atm but will try again later on!
as for EAX, hhornet advised me to deactivate it and I did but no change of stuff...

U re shure ur Settings in SOUND are with aktivated Hardwaresupport ? mmhh i think it should work with :

Hardwaresupport = on
EAX = off

If you have another audio card you can lay your hands on you can try installing it or if you have a modern PC you may have an onboard audio which you could activate. You could try that and see if you still get the same problem. Unless you are using a Soundblaster card which supports EAX I agree switch that off and maybe hardware support as well.
Also make sure you have the latests drivers for the soundcard

I got creative xfi gamer soundcard and i had these probs.

I had to do what titangunther is suggesting.

As this is a USB, i wonder if an update to the chipset drivers may help?

Is there any audio software running?

He uses a Creative XFi gamer same as me. I do not use a USB headset though. I have no problem.
It is important to remove all old sound card drivers, especially Creative before installing a new one, have you recently changed the soundcard?

Well done pez, i was getting to the software lolz...

My headset does not connect via USB to transfer sound but to supply power.

I have 4 stereo jacks plugged into my soundcard.

Great stuff..

u crazy person i got the same headset but not usb, for a bunch of reasons...

1. you dont get a true sound through USB
2. you cant plug it into you're sound card
3. they dont work properly

thats just a few off of the top of my head

this has nothing to do with your hard- or software I think...

rackage has external VoIP servers to get less laggier gameplay...
unfortunatly the don't work properly all the time...

If you rejoin after a server crash or after you changed your soldier it should work as usual... I also suffer from this from time to time :haha3:
