Hi

I have a suggestion that might help the admins spend less time kicking and banning and more time playing.
I previously owned and administered BF2 and BF2142 servers. I found that players behaved themselves more when admins were on the server so all the admins had tags to show they were admins, ours were [SE]Ad. It certainly meant we spent less time kicking the AA spammers and fighting commanders because they knew they were going to get kicked. I know it is difficult to provide admin cover and it is a horrible job if there are a lot of idiots on but they eventually get the message. This will not help when there is no admin on the server but that will not change the current situation. I used to have a spare name with no tags to catch those who deliberately waited until there was no admin. I found that it reduced the workload quite a bit after a time.
Admins are only a deterrent if they are visible. I spend a lot of time on timeless servers and quite often the game is completely spoiled by fighting commanders and AA spammers and anything that will help has to be worth a try, it may as I said, help the admins to have a better game as well.

Sometimes there is no admin present at all, this can be an advantage not wearing

a tag to identify admins as paranoia sets in lolz

Don't forget admins have other soldiers too which we can admin from just as

effectively ! ;)

Indeed. People then pay attention to see if admins are on and if not can be a lot worse. You're more likely to behave if you don't know you're being watched at all.

i get the impression from other similar threads where this has been mentioned before is that when a admin has tags it can be more of a problem. people constantly spamming them saying 'so and so is doing this....etc' or'kick this guy' sort of comments

obviously dont personally know as i have never been an admin myself, but im sure people have said this takes away from the admin being able to play the game.

surly this would be worse if they were more visable???

Wearing an "admin tag" is like being a playground supervisor at a primary school. Constantly been told "Player X is a hacker - kick him", "Player Y is cheating - kick him", "Player Z keeps killing me - ban him"....sorry thats just me http://homepage.ntlworld.com/rob.ingram1/smilies/Naughty.gif

Rest assured that if you were to don an admin tag on such popular servers you will not get a moments peace

Perhaps adding a reoccuring "ADMIN IS NOW ON THE SERVER" line to the console messages may deter poor gamesmanship even when there is no admin actually on-line?.

It seems to work (or at least it does for me) that if I type in uppercase "PLEASE STOP AA SPAMMING" then if an admin is on the server they react sharpish http://homepage.ntlworld.com/rob.ingram1/smilies/mod.gif

That was the other issue, but definitely a more selfish one is the admin then doesnt get a moments peace. I quite like the idea of posting "admin on server", but I think this might have a bit of a scarecrow effect.

Personally i think we're fine as is... if there is a cheat on the server, he'll never

know when the impending ban will hit him.

All of the above happens now and still you get people breaking the rules. I have spent a lifetime in law enforcement and the best deterrent is a visible presence. Invisible admins is a bit like speed cameras, they don't deter anything where they are not. If you take on the post of admin you should also shoulder the responsibility and it would give the honest players the opportunity to pass on their observations instead of typing admin and receiving no reply. Like it or not an admin is a policeman and should be proud of that.

Remember the Thread of D43MON in which he caught an Aimbotter by asking him. If he would had an Admin Clantag that Time i think that this Cheater would not had talked to him. I also think its a good Thingi with that Message in Headline ( Admin is Online ), but it could be also a Help for the Hackers and Cheaters because the Hacks today are possible to play even with PBStream. But i think it would be helpful to the Spamming AA Thingi.
Personaly i think Admin Tag is not good, but the Message in Headline maybe could be useful.

OK as I said it helped my admins a lot, they spent less time kicking/banning and more time enjoying the game.

Invisible admins is a bit like speed cameras

Yes i agree... Just like speed cameras... when u see em you slow down....

Speed up again after they have gone....

We hear you m8y but we beg to differ.

There is obviously advantages to visible admins thats true.

but a lot depends on the individual's attitude to admins.

I'd rather not be known as an admin to every cheating new comer to Timeless servers within a minute or so.

I'd rather they never know who banned em. ;)
