New catalyst 9.1 released...
driver: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML
release notes: http://www2.ati.com/relnotes/catalyst_91_release_notes.pdf

Full OpenGLâ„Ē 3.0 support now and these should be faster than 8.12 drivers. But i looked some of the benchmarks and there was only 1 fps increase in some games...

I dont think that this was mentioned before, new drivers issued... Catalyst 9.8

Using a system based on the Dragon platform (so Phenom II, 790GX, and Radeon HD 4800 graphics), the company says it measured considerable gains with multi-GPU configurations running at resolutions of 1680x1050 and higher.

Purportedly, performance can increase by as much as 50% in Far Cry 2, and you can also expect meaty gains in Battleforge, Company of Heroes, Crysis, H.A.W.X., S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and World in Conflict. AMD notes that the gains apply to both conventional CrossFire setups and the single-board Radeon HD 4870 X2.

Hope it will do something with the Volumetric Lightning and Volumetric Smoke effects on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, because as i understood, my Radeon HD 4850 didnīt support those effects.. Couldnīt even put the effects ON in the Options.. :( Same with the Rain Effects in Stalker, which were incredible.

But, what do i care, iīm looking for a new Graphics card anyway, i cheated on GeForce, and now i hope GeForce will take me back ;)

Not sure what you mean? I have the newest DirectX, but do you mean, like going in on DirectX and Enabling it?

Chriss-FIN-

I think i read about that from somewhere, but cant remember where.
I only have 9.0c as there is no legit DX10 to windows xp, so i cannot check my self....

If you don't know what card you have in your case ( dax ;)) go get this (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1379/mirrors.php) it's only 433.8kb...

Then i must got your problems too :lol1: So many times there went something wrong when i did not use uninstall...

I remember one "funny" issue from the past (not uninstall issue)
I noticed that new drivers came, so i was eager to update them. All went fine and i was asked to restart computer. Happily i restarted it and boom, there was no signal to my monitor. I could not understand what was wrong, tried to solved it looong time, but i had no luck...

Next thing i go to watch tv at livingroom and there my monitor picture was  Well, i had also my livingroom tv linked with wireless transmitter to computer at the time when i updated the drivers. And new driver only installed the tv in livingroom, no mention anywhere that i had monitor also. It was soooo slow project to get monitor also installed. Move a little bit mouse -> run to livingroom to see where pointer is going -> back to computer to adjust place -> check the tv -> back to comp -----> moooore running between rooms, you get the idea :lol1: finally i got my monitor also back on and newer ever installed anything while wireless setup was plugged.

Catalyst 10.5 Radeon GPU drivers :http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

:quote:

The monthly driver update for Radeon graphics cards is now available, courtesy of AMD. Catalyst 10.5 resolves a variety of issues for all Windows operating systems and brings the typical round of tweak. Support for 120Hz displays has been added for Radeon HD 3000 or 4000-series cards, as well as overclocking enhancements for multi-monitor setups.
Many games have received fixes, including Alien vs. Predator, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Empire: Total War, IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946, Mass Effect 2, Napoleon: Total War, Resident Evil 5, and Splinter Cell Conviction. Other squashed bugs include one that improperly reported HDTV resolutions when hovering over an icon under in the CCC, and anther caused vertical stripes to appear during XVID content playback with dynamic contrast enabled.

I haven't tried BC2 yet, but these new drivers have fixed a performance problem with a beta I'm in, and seem to make other games run better too.

Kharak

no map loading fix for me... After installing the drivers, all seemed to run well. I tried to read the log but it would not show, I then clicked finished and it went out of the installer and said "No drivers were installed"... The ****... ? I checked on CCC and it says that I am on version 10.5, but some things seem to run quite unstable.. I need to test this further.

Bottom line is that ATI drivers again messed my computer up  waaaah :P

Rozonus

Kharak try reinstalling the dirvers again over the top, if you haven't already.

And if you want to try new drivers without the hassle of bad things happening, make a new system restore point just before you install them. That way, if they really bugger up your PC you can instantly restore back from 5 minutes ago when you had the old drivers.

Im still using 10.4, but maybe its time to update them soon.

I've heard that for CrossFireX cards like the HD5970, the 10.5 drivers with 10.8 profiles gives the best results for BC2. I always update the drivers/profiles for my HD5970, and the 10.8 drivers make BC2 crash after about 15 minutes (this happens to lots of people). Oddly enough though, the 10.8 profiles made BC2 run much smoother with a higher fps, so maybe AMD are finally understanding how to make their CrossFireX cards more compatible with games.

I didn't downgrade because the 10.8 drivers made other games run much better, so I'll download the 10.9 drivers/profiles tonight and see if they fix my problem. I'll let you know how it goes.

Kharak
18-09-2010, 12:47
how did it go ?

Rozonus
18-09-2010, 18:06
The 10.9 drivers seem stable enough, but they haven't fixed the random black screen problem with BC2 that I've had since the early 10.x drivers.

The 10.9 profiles lowered my fps quite a bit and the game turned into a slide show when there was a lot of smoke on-screen. I've uninstalled those profiles and reinstalled version 10.8 which has given me the nice increase in fps again. I haven't played a long session with the 10.9 drivers so I can't be sure, but it looks like my random crashes after playing for a short time are gone.

SorryGuys

Got 10.9 and all's well, i've even lost the the "freezing" that i used to get for a few sec's when i first joined a server, dont't know what caused that but i don't have it now

SorryGuys
20-09-2010, 15:36
I have freezing but not for the new drivers...it happened 2 days ago before installing it...i dont know why WTH!!!!! nothing is changed in the last 2 days, no windows update, no pb issues, nothing!!! i play in a server and after 3 min it freeze or crash to desktop! grrrrrrrrrrr:curse:

Kharak
24-09-2010, 21:20
reinstall?

Chriss-FIN-
29-09-2010, 18:53
I tested those 10.9's , but BC2 became unplayable with my 4890. Playing was so sluggish, laggy and odd, i bet my FPS dropped realy much, but i did not check that. So i reverted back to my old drivers and everything is fine... but loading times to the maps were reeealy fast, but that does not counter weight bad points.
If it's not broken, don't fix it!
