View Full Version : ATI's 4870
You probably all heard about this new card coming soon...
Here's some early benchmarks but nobody can confirm them
to be true/false.. I would say they're a little high but i do believe
the 4870 will be the best card in the world just now, that is until
Nvidia release the 9900 series..... Lets see ;)

Yeah and at the moment you can buy two of these cards for just under the price
of one 9800GX2.. here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-001-OE&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=939&name=HIS%20ATI%20Radeon%20HD%204870%20512MB%20GDDR 5%20TV-Out/Dual%20DVI/HDMI%20(PCI-Express)%20-%20Crossfire%20Bundle
Can't grumble......
Aaaaand the 4870 x2 ? Whats that gonna do eh?
It never stops. ;)
ATi has the upper in my opinion, the fact they have DX10.1 and offer something that beats the 9800GTX for £110 one can hardly grumble, i have to say.. i am tempted to buy 2 4850's.. but i shall resist the temptation.. something i don't really need.. plus one thing always leads on to another with me. :|

got me a 4850 today for just over a ton. just for fun, ya know how it is :) Runs Crysis @ around 32fps+ average, on all high with AA, 1680x1050 ( Dx9 ) I got XP :(,
sits here quite nice http://seraphin.digitalinsomnia.co.uk/storms/4850.gif
Standard they are around 625mhz on the gpu & 993mhz on the memory
not a bad card, Would love to own its big brother but hey Mr Brown Said No!!! to having too much free cash O_o
Nice one, do some more benchmarks! 8-)
Whats the load temps like of the card? apparently the temps are the weakness of the card.
Also: which version of the card do you have? :)

Hi Jx3Aroo
Model : Sapphire "ATI" HD 4850 512MB Gddr3.
Standard settings: Core 625Mhz / Memory 993Mhz
Idle Temp avg 55 degrees C, Load temp 84 -> 87 'c.
system score with 3dmark06 around 9350->6460's.
improvement against when i had 2x ATI x1650 pro's crossfired
system only scored 3900 -> 4300's.
Clock it to run like a 8800 GTx/GTs
core 690 Mhz / Memory 1133 -> 1143Mhz using ATi driver Catalyst software
& it scored in the 9900's+ depending on screen size.
Temp remained about the same. O_o
mind you I have a fan not too far away from it.
The cards slightly smaller than an nvidia 8800, not by much though, it will still go from one end of the case to the other almost touching the drives..
Been playing around with it for the last day it seems to hate Bioshock @ 1680x1050 on all high settings where an 8800 would walk it, could just be me O_o " time to tweek"
Have not found any really good drivers yet. Catalyst 8.6 drives it well but in the notes it only supports ATI 3850's etc. " we will see lol"
The card ships with version 8.5.
all in all not bad for about £110 +vat give or take a squidlet

Not a bad score at all m8 for a 100 quid card... ;)
Another 4870 Review.

Still seeing the 9800gx2 as the best card at the moment but these single gpu
cards upgraded to x2 will be great. The best that i see for £400 is two 4870's.
Nvidia totally over priced the 260 and 280's yet again
4870 x2 On Sale Now... Close to £400 UK

that would be great to put in the pc hornet. But i think its to expensive for my wallet. The horses and renovate my house is killing my wallet.
