I installed NS like this
INSTALL BF2142
Run PATCH 1.25
Install NS booster
RUN PATCH 1.25
Worked for me doing it that way

the same like me ...
the best way to do it is uninstall battlefield.
install it again
download now PATCH 1.20 from the electronicarts site
install it now
download now PATCH 1.25 also from the ea site
install it now
install now northern strike
and lets play!!

having the same issue, on Tmeless NS
tried to re-install

loaded game then patched
1.05
1.06
1.10
1.20
1.25
then NS still get modified content
errors all servers

Did you try the original suggestion. Use patch 1.25 only?
There are two versions of some of the early patches. Those that upgrade a patch from one patch to the next and those that upgrade the original program. All those patches might be the issue.
Just uninstall
Install game
run patch 1.25
Install NS
Run 1.25 again.
first reinstall bf 2142, then patch to newest version, then install northern strike and then patch to newest version again
and what errors do you get on timeless servers? so can you play on any other ns servers?

Releay strange when i loaded the patches sequentially i couldnt get on timeless ns, just kept getting the "modified version please revert error".
anyway seem to have worked for all, great & thanks
I bought norten strike today, but cant get in to timeless ns server. is it becouse im using 1.40 patch ?

No. AFter you added Northern Strike did you run the Patch 1.40 again? If so do so. We also stop certain characters in clan names. Do you use a clan name? And is mojez your in game name?

i have downloaded it via the ea downloader and installed it but i still am unable to join any server with NS maps

If you want to use 1.5, which you will have to do if you want to play normal BF2142 carry out the procedure above and then patch to 1.50. For some wierd reason there is something in Patch 1.4 which is not included in 1.50, about normal for DICE. Even this may not work and you may have to clean the registry. If you don't know how to do that don't attempt it. Fiddling with the registry can stop your computer altogether.
There is a complete answer on the EA forums, with instructions on deleting the registry entries. If you follow that make sure you back up the registry, this is vital.
Simple answer is you must install patch of northern strike
Bf2142>patch>Northernstrike>Re-Run patch
Running the patch a second time takes less time anyway. But this fixes your problem.

2142 patched to 1.50
installed northern strike
repatched to 1.50
modified content revert to earlier version ??
any ideas with out me having to unistall every thing lol

I had issues with NS.
Installed B2142 and updated to 1.5, but later i wanted to install NS (server was up and running :). So i installed NS and patched again to 1.5, but it was big no no for game.
After reading instructions the correct order is BF, 1.4, NS, 1.4 and 1.5.
But there is no need to install whole game again, Hornet helped me and he has made next file http://www.timelessgaming.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=9
With that you can install pacthes again in correct order, worked realy good for me and i did not had to install whole game again, but this fix is only for XP.

Yeah, until something gets corrupted then the V1 reset patch helps save a lil time ;)
Can this sticky please be removed or exhanged with a tread, which the reply ability has been removed?

Ashoof, Hornet, Face, Gzap or Olorian. Please change this sticky to the fundamental part, that is the core needed in this tread.
The instal order is as followed:
Instal BF2142, then install patch 1.40, then install NS, then install 1.40 AGAIN and then 1.50.
This is all that is needed to make NS work! So please change this sticky, itīs really confusing.
