View Full Version : Internet connection problems, got any advice???
Hi,
i currently have an isdn connection up to 4.5Mp and lately between the hours of 16:00-22:00 it look like i v been connected with another planet, lol.
The thing is that all the other time my ping when connected is more or less 50 but at those hours it gets crazy,in one second can reach from 100 up to 600 with the result been kicked all the time and being killed all the time as you shoot ghosts apparently in the game..I called the company but they said that nothing is wrong with your connection. When it happens i close BF2142 and run the speedtest.net to check the connectivity and it shows a speed of 3.5Mp with a ping of 47.(dont know how reliable is that)
Does anyone might have an idea or an advice on whats happening???
cheers Kon
No idea but my ping sometimes get rage and jumping upp and down like a madman. Not so high as 600 thou. I get kicked anyway when it jumps. I hate it when it does that. The last few days I haven´t be able to play. My broadband has slowed down and when i connect to a b2142 server and starts the game the picture frezze and jumps. My company is looking for the problems, I´m crying my self to sleep. I want to play!:w73:
actually connection speed is not the primary reason for high ping. i used to play bf2142 from india on timeless servers with a ping of around 250 ms with 256 kbps dsl broadband connection. after upgrading to 2 mbps connection it has come down to 175. i again upgrade to 8 mbps speed , but ping remains the same.
i think you have some programme starting in the background at that time such as automatic updates or something of that kind. check out for those.
some viruses also get active for a specific period of time.
best of luck

Another thing,i am a brigadier general, does anyone knows why in the BF menu in the ranking bar why it says
your ranking is 59532/0,doesn't supposed to be saying you ranking is 59532/60000(for example)in order to move to the next rank?

kon: the problem is you can´t get higher than brig. gen. that´s the highest rank you can get with points.
maj.gen., lt.gen. and supreme commander can´t be reached with points. the (i think) 150 brig.gens worldwide who get the most points ina week will be rewarded with these ranks for a week. play much and try to get at least 7000 points then you might have a chance to be awarded with these special ranks.
here´s what it looks like:

There are 3 more rankings higher then brigadier general that is from major general to supreme commander. as per the game there can be only one person on any of the three ranks at a time. EA has adopted a rotational policy for that. so keep playing and you will get higher rank anytime in near future
:w73: ,start working!lol
cheers mate
I dont think that you have to play LONG enough to reach one of these higher ranks.. I guess you have to get many kills, less deaths, I mean you need a good KDR in this week and good win/lose ration for rounds =) not the amount of points is important but the skill is the main thing I think.. lol
We got someone in the clan and he really did not play that long to earn that many points... he was just good at aiming and playing in a team =)
Found this answer in a forum:
Well thanks to EA I guess we will never make Major General. I was looking for the answer of how to get the rank and this is what one person said on one of the forums I visited. Aagain Thanks EA!
"Here is the official answer to ranking up to the three major ranks (Major General, Lieutenant General and Supreme Commander)
These are known as the 'decay' ranks and are awarded to the top 76 players in the world who have the highest score (experience points) and have reached the 40th rank. The rank is based on the previous week total amount of experience and divided as follows:
Major General - 50 players
Lieutenant General - 25 players
Supreme Commander - 1 player
You don't get any unlocks for being this rank
There are three criteria needed in order for your weekly amount of earned Career Points to be added to your total Career points, these are:
- Reached the 40th rank (Brigadier General)
- 2000-5000 In a Round Score during the week
- K/D Ratio of 1-2 (average during the week)
So in basic terms:
MG - 50 players - 2000 points - 1 K/D
LG - 25 players - 3000 points - 1.5 K/D
SC - 1 player - 5000 points - 2 K/D
WarHead:
2000-5000 in a Round? This is surely a misquote, as indicated by the "basic terms" in a week........
Back to the high ping problem. Would having as fast a connection speed as possible alleviate a high ping? And would playing on a wireless network cause a high ping?
Need help...
Well this is the misunderstanding u see... a faster connection means you will
simply have a greater bandwidth allocated to you, not a faster connection,
you will download at a faster speed, you will not 'connect' to a pc on the other
side of the world any faster, upgrading your ISP bandwidth will do nothing for
your ping. Effects of your ping will rely greatly on the network in general.
If you use a local bf2142 server, you should get low pings of 15-100 or so.
This being in ideal times, busy, peak times on the net will affect your ping and so
your ping will be far worse at these times, as will the distance from the server
or pc you are trying to connect to. Other things to check are programs on your
pc running in the background while playing games, programs like to update
theirselves etc, check the distance and location of your wireless router, the more
obstacles (glass, metal, wood etc)between the router and your pc will affect the
sending of packets to and from your router/PC, irrelevent of how powerful your
router is. Put the router up higher than your network card and within 10 meters
from your PC. Check for interference from other wireless 2.4ghz devices around
your home, phones and wireless camera's etc can stop your signal dead or at
the very least affect the sending of packets. If you are lagging in game, check it
is your ping that is being affected, people moan about lag and their ping is fine,
in these situations, it tends to be the performance of their PC more than anything.
If you suspect this, drop your gfx settings to minimum and play with these lower
settings and see if you still lag, raise the settings until you find a sweet spot.
Changing your ISP, stop background progs, use closer game servers, help
your router position, check for interference, update your drivers or firmware
for your router and NIC. Keep us posted ;)
Best explanation I've heard yet on the "ping"
Thanks so much!
One more question though, why is it that on certain servers I (or anyone I guess) gets kicked for a high average ping and other servers it's no problem?
There is an automated kick for high average ping option, it is optional
for the server to kick a player for a high ping, this setting is variable and
is set by admin of the server. We tend to have it set to around 300-350
in Timeless to keep the ping-moaners at bay but in general the high pings
affect the individual a great deal more than the server on the whole. :)
