Hey Jx3 post your system maybe ist a problem with this, and wich software run in background ?? wich size did you have on display 1280*1024 ist the same like ingame ??

yes I have had the same thing happen and got right po'd Reformated reinstalled everything and still happened.. I read in a MS form that the latest update release for XP has something to do with it.
I fixed it by removing the update, rebooting. Start your 2142 and while logged in to the BF2142 site installed the update... Works just fine now nomore resettings the PC.. good thing too my reset button was getting a good workout.

Right, i'm having the same problems. The game gets to a certain point and then from no where, freezes with the sound stuttering. Set the sound from to high to medium, and uninstalled the sound drivers and updated them. It is better than what it was but is still crashing. Had a look on ea's very 'helpful' support site and at a loss to what to do without doing a re-install.
Any ideas??

I dont get any errors, it just freezes and thats it. I'll re-install it, see if that fixes it. Very strange though as it was working fine yesterday and all of a sudden it decides to stop without anything being changed. Oh well.

Myself and quite a few others had a problem very similar to this a couple of weeks back. Someone on another forum posted these instructions to follow which seem to work for most people:
I know I've already posted this, but it didn't get much of a response......and this is the updated version, with an added fix that works for everyone. But the real reason that I reposted, is that even if you haven't gotten it before, you can still get it now. It is apparently a glitch with the EA master server, that corrupts some of your game files while you are playing, so there is no real way to prevent it. Everyone should read this just incase you get it later.
Well, after some research, it apparently all has to do with punkbuster. Here is a fix:
1. Go to start then run
2. In run type services.msc
3. Scroll down and look for Pnkbst A and B
4. Make sure they say started, if not right click it and allow it to start.
5. Go to my computer, then to your 2142 folder, and delete the folder named 'pb'

For some people, this hasn't fixed it, but apparently it works for most people who try it. But, for those that it doesn't work....here is a way that WILL work:
1. Go to My computer, then to your 2142 folder
2. Click the menu up top named Tools, go to Folder options...
3. Scroll down, and click 'Show hidden files and folders'
4. Right below that is 'Hide protected operating system files' uncheck that
5. Look for a file(in your main 2142 directory) named radial.cdb, then change it's name to something else.
That worked for me when I got it a few days ago, and has worked for everyone else I showed it to. Good gaming, and hope that you don't get it.

Cheers for that, the re-install has worked for now but when it goes again i'll give it a go.
Ok generally if it keeps happening what to do is ....
* [1]download the pbsvc.exe then install it = http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe
* [2]then download and install pbsetup.exe then select the game your looking for ie bf2142 then update ....- http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php just follow the page screen setup
* [3]next make sure your firewall has exceptions for both punkbuster A and B ....what to do is after you have done 1 & 2 above open the dos run box via the start bar and its there then type "services.msc " then scroll down and youl see "PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe" right click them to make sure both "startup type " are on AUTO then click "services type "are both "started" ...this should stop most issues with PB kicks other than being caught with a hack ...as you deserve to die for that muahahahah
if for some reason your PnkBstrB.exe aint there youll find em at C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exe and should be the same for C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrB.exe
dbld click them also make sure firewall exceptions for them have been added including any other exe. etc used by bf2142 and punkbuster inc the pbsetup.exe and pbsvc.exe and it should work ..just do it before ever time u start the game and you shouldnt get kicked ...its punkbusters fault and they know about the problem and aint fixing it until the new patch
and same as daveG says for the "radial.cdb" forgot about that one ...is your BF2142 download version or hard version ie disc ...as also u might try changing the bf2142.exe to bf2142pace.exe or vice versa ...... but rem and save the unedited file somewhere else incase you have to revert ....

I crash to desktop occasionally, like once out of every five hour gaming session.
Sometimes it totally locks up and 'hard resets' itself too.
Doesn't do it with any other game like.
