We all know just how poor Vista is but today, it has been misbehaving so badly. 4 crashes with BF2142 today.
I've looked to see if there have been any of those nasty updates but nothing as yet. I am SO SO angry with this waste of money, I really am.
/rant over

Is it crashing with memory errors? If so there is an update on the M$ site for Vista.
Hope this helps, it was a pain in the ass for me until i put the patch in.
I had a few probs with vista too, at the time with the 1.25 patch, there are
fixes and patched etc, i think i had to turn UAC off and update PB with my
problem(s)
Google your error and there's sure to be many in a similar situation and
you're sure to find the fix m8.
You've probably already done this too, if not and for others who have not....
Update PB, Update your sound and graphics drivers to the latest versions.
Close any background programs that may be running before you play
your games.
If you suspect faulty hardware or configuration problems then run PRIME95
If you get an error during the stress test within 10 mins or so then you got
issues somewhere> http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=103
Free prog with brief instructions there. Your issues will be related to drivers
and mainly hardware.... key suspects CPU, RAM, MB.
The basic rule here is, the longer you can rn this PRIME95 stress test the
less frequent you will get a memory error, random errors etc, basically the
more stable your machine. They say run for 24 hours to consider yourself to
have a stable machine, me, i run for a few hours, maybe overnight and thats
good enough for gamin but does not make me immune to the odd error
every blue moon.
Run MEMTEST to check you RAM. This RAM stuff can be the curse of many peoples
machines... memory errors and page faults, random blue screens and all sorts
of random errors will highlight faulty RAM. If you got a problem in memtest
you may need to check one stick of ram at a time to identify the corrupt piece.
MEMTEST> http://www.memtest.org/ all info and downloads here.
ATI DRIVERS> http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
NVIDIA> http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
CREATIVE anyone?? > http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/
Hope at least one thing above may be useful to someone. :56:
Plissken if you are getting a specific repetitive error, then post it here m8.
You will be able to play BF2142 with no problems, allbeit, with a few more
wrinkles that you would with XP etc. :56:

Thanks for everyone. Trust me, I have done everything to ensure Vista performs better. I upgraded to 4 GB of RAM, only to find that Vista Ultimate 64-bit didnt like it, so back down to 3GB, which lowered the score of my PC, despite increasing the RAM by 1 GB! lol
Ive all the patches, updates etc. It was just being a pile of crap yesterday and I think its because I was the commander. Normally, it does ok, if I turn off all the background programs, MSN, browsers before playing.
Vista really ISN'T for gaming, that is, the bottom line. Its like a new car with no wheels - great to look at but cant do f*** all with it!

I'm running Vista 64 Bit Home Premium? with 4 Gb Mem and had problems with it to start off with, but after the patches from M$ it's running sweet!
Quite like it now, more modern than XP which on my other PC I still get the BSOD.
Well i was dual bootin Vista and XP 32 bit for ages and i was playing games
on XP but before that i was using vista 64 and gaming, also BF2142 too
a few hiccups tbh but it ran cool. One thing that is loads better and its very
noticable is copying or transferring files from one source to another
even with the performance and reliability patch, XP was far superior
although it was noticible too, the patch made things faster. ;)

hmm. i really dont understand what has happened. The game ALWAYS crashes now when I am commander. It never used to. Yes, maybe i wont be the commander until i sort it out but why on earth is this doing it all of a sudden? It was fine last week.
I HATE YOU VISTA!

lol my bf2142 also crashes i have a system with 4 GB ram and a raid0 setup
lol mines fine but ive just pritty much wasted 190 quid on a graphics card lol..... vista jerks the hell out of 2142 when im recording with fraps i get 60 fps which is what fraps maxes out at so that good but it jerks all overthe place then it randomly then drops to like 20 fps... VISTA IS WIERD

Well the extra 2 gigs of ram sorted out that problem you might also want to stop the superfetch service before you game it takes alot of ram it´s good when you use vista for browsing etc....

I managed to fix the problem....it wasnt Vista (damn it!) and to be honest, i didnt think it was. I removed the rad.file again from BF2142 and bingo...all is good. I think the problem happens when you update your graphic card drivers...not sure on that yet
