View Full Version : 2142 problem
I dont get these errors... er, yet.
I think i installed BF2142, NS then 1.40... if thats any help.
A few having these probs... have you all installed the latest gfx drivers
or summert? this is something i have not done, unusually as i'm not getting
any problems, nor do i have any new games. Maybe this is the common
denominator ?

so i installed bf then 1.25 then ns then 1.25 then 1.4
worked then
erm... try ur gfx 1st.. make sure you use a relevent gfx driver cleaner too then
install the latest drivers. Also remove the old bf2142 directory (if you reinstall
bf2142) restarting pc at appropriate times.

Some registry stuff can be left behind....this is what I do whenever I reinstall:
1] Removing EA Link Files :
- Close and Kill EA Link ( Right-Click and select Close from the System Tray )
- Uninstall EA Link
- Go to your "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts" directory and Shift-Delete the "EA Link" directory
2] Removing Battlefield 2142 Files :
- Go to your "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts" directory and Shift-Delete the "Battlefield 2142" directory
- Go to your "My Documents" from the Desktop ( or "C:\Documents and Settings\<<Windows UserName>>\My Documents" ) and Shift-Delete the "Battlefield 2142" directory
- Go to your "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information " directory and Shift-Delete the "{ED50ECE9-EC54-4C05-B5ED-EE4741A9F2EC}" directory
# If you can't see this directory go to "Tools" > "Folder Settings" and tick "Show Hidden Folders"
3] Deleting Registry Keys :
- "Start" > "Run" > type "Regedit"
- First BACKUP your current Registry ( "File" > "Export" and save it, with Export Range set to ALL, in a safe place )
# In the left pane you should see 5 HKEY maps with a plus sign in front of them.
# If not click all the minus signs untill you do.
- Double-Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
- Double-Click SOFTWARE
# For the XP64 users an extra step : Double-Click wow6432node
- Double-Click DICE
- Right-Click and Delete Key-Map "Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike"

- Double-Click EA GAMES
- Right-Click and Delete Key-Map "Battlefield 2142"
- Double-Click EA GAMES
- Double-Click Electronic Arts
- Right-Click and Delete all Key-Maps that contain "Battlefield 2142 Patch ....."
- Right-Click and Delete Key-Map "Battlefield 2142 Update v1.20"
- Double-Click EA CORE
- Double-Click INSTALLED GAMES
- Double-Click EAGAMES
- Right-Click and Delete "BF2142"
- Double-Click EA CORE
- Double-Click EA GAMES
- Right-Click and Delete Key-Map "Battlefield 2142"
- Double-Click EA GAMES
- Double-Click Electronic Arts
- Double-Click Microsoft
- Double-Click Windows
- Double-Click CurrentVersion
- Double-Click Uninstall
- Right-Click and Delete Key-Map {ED50ECE9-EC54-4C05-B5ED-EE4741A9F2EC}
Close the Registry Editor.
4] Removing all other temporary files
- "Start" > "Run" > type "%temp%"
# This will bring you to your temporary directory inside "My Documents and Settings"
- Delete as much Files as you can ( some can't be removed due to the system )
5] REBOOT
Then reinstall as per catziggy's post above.....some of the stuff in this reply is a bit outdated now - like the EA Link stuff - but you get the general idea.
Good luck!

Also - what server are you tring to conenct to Jx3Aroo? It's possible that the server you are trying to connect to may not be running up-tp-date patches - TImeless servers are all up-to-date tho :)

hehe - oh yeah - a format *would* remove the whole registry along with everything else ;)....anyway - it's useful info :)
Hope you get it sorted m8

Could be a RAM problem - this could explain the problem re-occuring across formats....you could use memtest to thouroughly test the RAM: http://www.memtest.org/

Yup Try installing it all with just 1mg stick installed.
Nope its not ram guys, poor patch... programming, this may depend on ur GFX drivers and/or other hardware
Ur RAM will more than likely be fine.
Ive had this a couple of times in past. i had to reset my version of BF with
a reg file. Xfire me and i'll send it ya.
Its been invaluble for me in past and saves a lot of time. This would
be a useful file.. i'll see if we can stick it in the downloads section...
http://www.timelessgaming.co.uk/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=2
Here is the Reset to V1 reg file in the Timeless Downloads section. ;)
Dude start a fresh. You'll need to uninstall BF etc. Go to the game directory and the my documents games directory and delete it. you will need to setup your controls again tho.
Restart ur pc... reinstall the lot in the correct order. I do BF2142. NS. 1.25. 1.40
Although i'm sure BF NS then 1.40 will be enough. Also PB update.
If you are not getting problems elswhere on ur pc with other apps and other games then its just BF thats messing around. If you are getting errors in other apps and games then check ur RAM using memtest, run stability tools on ur pc like prime 95 any problems here gimme a shout. Make sure you using latest DX and drivers for your sound and GFX if youre getting probs with games only.
If you suspect the prob to be drivers etc. make sure you use a good driver cleaning tool before you install fresh drivers and remove the relevant driver directory, restarting ur pc each time you make a big move. Let us know m8.

Check ur virus and firewall protection and file protection etc too while patching.

Just as a kind of checklist, heres what I would do - ignore if you've already done all this
1) re-install XP (I'm assuming it is XP)
2) Install all of the drivers for your specific hardware - everything should be accounted for in device manager
3) Run the Windows/Microsoft Update until you have *all* of the latest patches and windows bits and bobs installed - you'll probably have to reboot a few times and run Windows Update again and again until you have everything installed.
4) Install 2142 as per catziggy's post earlier in this thread - making sure your 2142 install files are OK (get new ones if in doubt)
If that still doesn't work, there must be something else wrong - i.e. BIOS settings or hardware problem.
Questions:
1) How do you install 2142 and the patches? From CD or via EA download manager?
2) When *exactly* do you get the memory sanity check error?
Other things to try:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894472/en-us
Or found this when sniffing around:
Enter game menu, ALT/TAB to desktop, CTRL/ALT/DEL, Processes tab, right click BF2142, select "Set affinity", un-select one of the two cores. If you don't have a dual core then I don't have a solution. This fixes the problem 100% of the time for me.
Failing that you could try upping your page-file size
hope it helps

It worked for me and one other person. Try my suggestion of removing a stick of ram (assuming you have two). Tryinstallation. If it doesnt work swop the sticks and try again.
Yes could be heat, can u check temp of CPU... you will neeed to check ur CPU on another mobo to confirm ur CPU is ok or if its your mobo is playin up.
If CPU heat, could be too much or too little TIM on ur cpu. It could also be that
your cpu has developed a fault, maybe coz of heat or overclocking/incorrect
cpu settings.

,,,
60 is fine. I think you're best check this CPU on another mobo but my
guess is that you won't get an OS fresh install on this PC if all this is
actually hardware related, this is what i would do next. Failing an OS
install, i would say its highly probably somethin to do with your mobo
either BIOS or faulty mobo. The regular kernel errors and other random
errors suggests RAM/CPU but if you've checked your RAM and ur CPU is running
cool and fine on another mobo then its gotta be your mobo... i do suggest
you check your RAM also on another mobo if you are getting faulty
addresses in memtest now. If you are passing memtests now then its
likely related to the CPU/chipset side of the mobo that is faulty (new mobo) ;)
lol i just put 2142 on put patch on an jobs a gud en only think is optimising shaders that take too long and gets me angry
