2142 players owe him much as he kept working hard on the game even when the rest of Dice didn't show much interest in it anymore. good luck to him.
About 6 years ago, I left the Electronic Arts back in the UK and joined Electronic Arts in their most recent purchase… Digital Illusions CE AB or DICE as most people know it.
I worked on a franchise that I had played for years including my all time favourite… Battlefield 2142. I was on the older titles to the point that Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 had Niklas Henriks and myself keeping the games alive and thanks to KM, we gave them their final updates with the booster packs on both games being available free to everyone. (Special Forces of course didn’t make it into that group)
I’ve seen DICE grow the Battlefield franchise, I’ve seen them try new IP with Mirror’s Edge and I’ve seen what they have lined up for everyone in the future and it is very VERY good.
I’ve seen the clan tag “DICE” banned from use in Call of Duty games and oddly enough even in some EA games.
Most importantly, I met my fiancée, Donna, through Battlefield all thanks to DICE.
DICE has been a great place to work with it’s good times and it’s frustrating times but mainly good.
So now, DICE and the Battlefield community, I bid thee fairwell. I know we will meet again in future ventures so I will see you at that time and on the Battlefield.
in his reply to comments he talks a bit about 2143 and what he hopes it will be if ever it is made, i hope for the same.
Thanks everyone.
Mordor has always been a place I've loved. Comments from you all with your suggestions, your assumptions and even your facts in the face of a very limited flow of information from out of DICE. It isn't because Matros and myself didn't want to share more with you it is because some groups have more power/say within the decision making process than we had.
With my time at DICE, I just wish I could have given better and more support for BF2 and BF2142 with more community generated content, more official fixes and more done to stop those damn exploits that plagued the scene. When you get given no budget and one programmer it is very limited in what you can do. Niklas Henriks did an AMAZING job with BF2 and BF2142 considering he came onto the games so late and had to learn the engine and code people had written.
Some shout outs to some of you guys.
LeBlackDragon - You drive JoeGrant insane :) but only cos you seem to nail the situation or get very close to it. You sure you aren't a DICE insider?
SilverRook (Adam) - BF2142 FOREVER! If "BF2143" ever happens I hope it lives up to the standards BF2142 set and includes everything it should have in. Commander, VoIP controlled in game, Titan mode and big maps all round (PC and console). If it can't be that then it shouldn't be made.
GamerOfFreedom - Been around in the community it seems for as long as I have been at DICE, keep playing :)
VectorRoll & CrazyCanukk - Thanks for all your help with the forums, I don't think you guys get enough appreciation for what you do. You put up with crap from the community AND from us making the games. You have a tough job but yet you guys keep doing it, do you ever sleep?
ACleverKitten (Donna) - I love you
Everyone else... Keep Mordor alive, it is a MUCH better community than the EA US forums even if others only see the complaining and avoid you. Some of the best feedback and biggest laughs have come from you all and the pictures and stories you post.
