Hey Guys,

Wonder if you can help me. I'm just about ready to quit the Battlefield unless I can find a solution soon!!!

I recently upgraded to Windows Vista after having problems with 2142. This seemed to sort out the problems but now when i double-click on the 2142 icon i get a white box appear instead of the 2142 loading screen. This is the screen before the game launches. Then after a while the screen goes BLACK and nothing else happens. This happens to BF2 as well but not to any other game i own? Why does this always happen with an EA game?

Does anyone have any idea why this is?

I've tried everything from Re-Installing the game and patch to running as Administrator to installing the latest DIRECT-X and NVIDIA drivers for my graphics card. (7900gt) and disabling my firewall which solved the problem for a little while but it started happening again even though the firewall was off.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have u got the intro movies running or like me have u disabled em? found here: Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142\Movies\

Backup all the .bik files then create identical text docs renaming the extentions from .txt to .bik eg intro.txt to intro.bik which will then be a near zero bytes file. The game will load without the intro's. This might be the prob?

Another thing u can do is delete the bf2142 folder in mydocuments and reconfigure ur profile. Some people say drop ur settings to min including ur reso and then start the game with these settings then quit, reapply settings and restart game.It does indicate a driver issue tho.... use a driver cleaner to remove the nvidia driver, restart and reinstall. Just a few ideas, i'm sure u prob tried.

I was havin probs with Vista32&64/bf2142... U must update punkbuster but the only way i could get it to work is.... Update PB then use a bf2142 patch reset to version 1 .reg file (on net - i can mail u it if u want) then reinstall the 1.25 patch. This has worked on my pc and my mrs laptop. ;)

How'd u get on btw?

Well i can play now but have to keep deleting the 2142 folder in my documents then have to go through the optimising shaders pish every time!

When i do get on it's like i'm lagging quite badly but i have a good FPS between 30-50 most of the time.

I have the up to date drivers for vista 32-bit. 158.58 i think. Can you think of anything else which could be causing the problems?

I still say ur prob is with drivers m8, even when u reset ur profile, as i think the higher res u play on is where the prob lies. Do u get the same prob, after deleting the dox folder and starting with the default resolution? Did u use the driver cleaner and reinstall the new drivers? As ur gettin the same prob with BF2 it cant be BF2142. Also did u stop the .bik 's startup vidz runnin? U can do the same with BF2 too. IMO i think u need to clean ur drivers off either with a driver cleaner or manually inc all registry entries etc then restart and reinstall latest drivers. Chipset drivers and sound for ur mobo/soundcard up to date too? I know u updated DX9 to the latest release.

I changed punkbuster code in console by typing "pb_sleep 500" then type pb_writecfg to save so punkbuster only checks every 500 secs instead of every 20 secs. This has improved gameplay quite a bit but i still get a little lag at times.

ITS BACK TO SQUARE 1 AGAIN.

Just stopped working again for no reason. Won't even go past loading screen. May be a vista problem. Think i'll wait till QUAKE WARS.

I tried everything you said. My drivers are the latest ones. I have the latest direct x, i have removed the movies, re-installed the game, ran as administrator.

The problems always start after i install patch 1.25 for 2142.

I've spent days trying to fix this but to no avail. It's a real bummer!

I managed to find a workaround to the problem. Cracked the game and cracked the online mp connection problem. Don't quite know what the exact problem was though? Possibly a damaged disk?
