So not much info about this as it was just launched, but it seems to be "update" to EADM with steam like features...
EA announcement (http://www.ea.com/news/electronic-arts-launches-origin)

And from another news site:
Sign up to Origin, EA's Steam rival, and you'll get "exclusive game content" for games such as Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3.

EA is yet to reveal exactly what that exclusive game content is, however.

Exclusive limited edition copies of Battlefield 3, FIFA 12 will be available from Origin. Future additions will include access to the latest online betas as well as demos and try before you buy opportunities, EA said.

Exclusive game content and trailers for Mass Effect 3, FIFA 12, SSX, Madden NFL 12, Need for Speed The Run, Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Sims 3 and Battlefield 3 will be available.

Exclusive content from EA Partners games Alice: Madness Returns and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will also feature.

We already knew that the digital download of Star Wars: The Old Republic will be available exclusively on Origin later this year. At least that confirms the MMO will launch in 2011.

Origin launches today at 5pm UK time.

The Origin beta application, which you'll be able to download from the official Origin website, sits on your desktop and allows direct connection to EA content, and allows you to create and manage a personal community of gamers. You can find and connect with friends, see what they're playing, and download and play PC games from EA.

There's a mobile version of Origin, too, which allows users to play EA's smartphone games. Yep, there's a mobile version of Battlefield 3 in the works. "This is our first step in the evolution of Origin, and in the weeks and months ahead we will look to enhance the features and services as well as an expanded range of content," said EA executive David DeMartini.

"From exclusive demos to full-game downloads, Origin is the place consumers will go for the best game experiences."

Im going to test it as i have many games from EADM and it has always worked as it should. Also sentence that signing up will get you exclusive game content for BF3 got me interested, so at least i try it :)

EDIT: Just quickly tested it and it looks very similar with old EADM, only added friend list/chat. It is update to EADM as my comp uninstalled EADM first, also your EA registering information will remain, so no need to create new account :)

Important! I saw that you can buy Battlefield 2142 now as a digital download, but does anyone here know if it also updates in origin?

Because I have a young brother, who doesn't speak of anything else than BF2142, always wants my copy. Would be nice if I just bought him 2142 on this Origin and it auto updated there... Such a pain for a small kid like him to go find updates for 2142.

I have battlefields in there, but i doubt that it will update them (at least old one didnt).
So its only for downloading the games (also can save image for later use), and its not needed for playing the games like steam. Could be changes in future, but i hope not as soon i have soooooo many little programs which are needed to just play. Good thing is that you can get EA games from there with key if you example destroy your dvd.
But dice have plan to release BF2142 + all patches version at steam, but will it take as long time as patch 1.51 :lol1: last update to that is from last month http://www.bazajaytee.com/2011/05/04/is-battlefield-2142-ever-coming-to-steam/

a real shame to see 2142 being treated that way, i'm expecting them to publish it on steam the day after bf3's release when any 2142 interest will be completely gone...

The State Of Origin: EA’s Attempt To Build A Head Of Steam
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/06/the-state-of-origin/

Well steam has big head-start, but nothing wrong with competition...

There is something wrong with competition, when the competition only offers products from 1 publisher, until it offers games from places other than EA, im not interested at all

Well, im only interested about prizes so its great that EA invest to new things, as i think steam is way too over prized place to buy anything... but there might be negative effects too, like you need to keep it on when you play for example... and it might get nasty as i think crysis 2 was removed from steam already

They need people to move over to Origin, thats why they remove it from steam.. Sure its a bit naughty, but so is steam.

I'm moving over, its good for the competition.

Electronic Arts did not pull Crysis 2 from Steam, it was kicked out by new Steam regulations.

GAH! Why do these companies have to be so greedy and self centred? I don't really care where I buy my games from anyway.

I wish that there was a regulation which meant that all games developers/publishers HAD to use the same digital distribution/social systems. Currently to communicate with all my friends and play multiplayer in all of my games I'll have to use Steam, Origin, Games For Windows Live, Xfire and TeamSpeak. I want a company like Valve to buy out the rest and roll it all into one system! If Steam sold, authenticated and updated EVERY game and took control of everything that GFWL and Origin did as well as having the superior features of Xfire and integrated TS3 VoIP across all the games, it would be brilliant!

...But that'll never happen.

So as you know, BF2142 went off to be added to STEAM a while ago and still hasn’t shown up. The reason for this isn’t because the game isn’t ready or that you don’t want it there (I know you guys do and I’m with you on this one) but politics.

As you will have seen recently there are ongoing discussions and situations between EA and Valve with some games no longer showing on STEAM like Crysis 2.

So, at the moment, the only place you can get BF2142 digitally is on Origin – Origin or through the retro method of buying it on DVD from places like Amazon – Battlefield 2142: Deluxe Edition (PC DVD): Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games

I’ll let you know if I hear of anything regarding BF2142 going on STEAM but as of now, it is on hold.
