I'd like to record some gameplay montage.

What do you use/recommend? Don't know what software is worth trying. Do you know what software Kharak used of making his montage?

Only requirement is that I won't pay a single cent of it. Thanx :)

U can also give me a tip of good free editing software.

Xfire has one built into it. I'm not sure whether it is appropriate for high quality editing, but it's definitely useful in capturing that odd blunder or cheater :)

For recording nearly any player out there use FRAPS, but for editing it comes lot of programms. Kharak used FRAPS for recording, Sony Vegas and some Adobe software for editing. Personaly i use like 5-8 programms to make Gameplay videos, depends on what i want that video for so sometimes i can reach target also with 3-4 Programms. Mostly i use this Programms : FRAPS, Sony Vegas, Adobe Photoshop CS5, VirtualDub, Blender

:yo: Been awhile since I was here ;)

But... I dont like Xfire for recording, well except if you are recording without sound, then I guess its good, but the sound always goes out of sync for me with xfire.

Fraps is not free, but imo definitely the best for lossless recording. Just make sure you have a lot of space on your HDD, because you will quickly end up on atleast 100 gigs used space and maybe only 4 gigs of those are footage that you will actually use.

For easy editing I recommend Vegas Pro, very easy to work with and does not take a long time to learn.

If you want better effects, the Adobe After Effects, but that program is much harder to learn to use.

FRAPS, Sony Vegas, Adobe Photoshop CS5, VirtualDub, Blender

A hefty price tag for them... I tried 'acquiring' Vegas it by 'other means' but couldn't get it to work...

Did you purchase your software GUNter or 'acquire' it?

Msi afterburner thats what I use as well, very nice and light so you have an idea I had the brilliant idea of setting ctrl+s to take screenshot and went play the game,

when I was done playing I had a lot of screenshots I took without noticing since every time I crawled and walked back it took one lol

Ofc I picked another combo now hehe.

I use Fraps, couldn't imagine an easier to use program. But it takes horribly much disk space if you record!

It happened to me the other day that one of my 1TB disks was filled to the brim, cause I accidently hit the record button and didn't notice it til it told me my disk reached the space limit... The result was a couple hundred of 4GB parts which were each about 1 min long... http://www.timelessgaming.com/timeless/forum/images/smilies/Kolo%20haha.gif

I tried using Fraps but it's just too much of a framerate hit, and the files are sodding ginormous!

The version of Afterburner I had didn't record sound. So I did what any smart person would do! Google "MSI Afterburner with sound" and found out that the newest beta version records sound as well!

And it works perfectly. No loss in framerate at all! Way way better than Fraps.

Sound doesn't work properly for me, but it records without framerate loss! Which is flippin awesome! :good2:

Edit: Sound works fine, somehow the program disabled it.

I personally prefer DXtory for recording my gameplay. No frame drops, runs smooth. And for editing I prefer Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro. To render my videos I use Sony Vegas Pro. ( Of course, I 'acquired' all of them. )

Does DXTory cause a framerate drop?

Does DXTory cause a framerate drop?

So far I haven't experienced any frame drops whatsoever. Recorded over 100GB worth of gameplay with it. It's way better than Fraps. It doesn't split videos like Fraps does.
